Staten Island’s FDR Boardwalk is the 21st New York City park location to turn on free AT&T* Wi-Fi service. The company announced a partnership with the Bloomberg Administration last June to offer the service in parks across the five boroughs. The wildly popular initiative, which even in the off-season has seen parks visitors making more than 4,000 connections per day, allows any Wi-Fi enabled smartphone and tablet user to connect to the AT&T Wi-Fi network.

The announcement comes on the heels of AT&T turning on 4G LTE service in the borough, bringing even faster mobile Internet speeds for Staten Island customers with 4G LTE smartphones and tablets.**

“Between new AT&T 4G LTE service and now free Wi-Fi at the FDR Boardwalk, we are committed to keeping Staten Island residents connected, whether at home, at work or in the parks,” said Tom DeVito, AT&T vice president and general manager for New York and New Jersey. “We look forward to bringing even more parks online with AT&T Wi-Fi in the coming months so that more smartphone and tablet users can take advantage of this service as we head into the summer.”

“I am pleased that Staten Islanders will now be able to access Wi-Fi service along our South Beach Boardwalk and Beach area thanks to AT&T, and I commend Mayor Bloomberg and former DoITT Commissioner Carole Post for their leadership on this initiative throughout New York City,” said Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro.

The launch is part of a five-year digital initiative with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the City of New York to provide free Wi-Fi at 26 locations in 20 New York City parks across the five boroughs. In addition to FDR Boardwalk, New Yorkers can now access free AT&T Wi-Fi at many other park locations across all five boroughs including:

  • Herbert Von King Park
  • McCarren Park Field House
  • Pier 1 and Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park
  • Prospect Park Picnic House
  • Astoria Park
  • Tompkins Square Park
  • Marcus Garvey Park
  • Clove Lakes Park
  • Battery Bosque and Ferry Landing at Battery Park
  • Thomas Jefferson Park
  • Joyce Kilmer Park
  • Mineral Springs, Tavern on the Green, Rumsey Playfield and Central Park Zoo in Central Park
