Sprint Professional Mobility Services expand to offer more choices for businesses to simplify management and security within a complex “bring your own device” workplace

Also, core security and control features are built into select devices with the new Sprint Professional Grade designation

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), May 03, 2012 – Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) announces the expansion of the Sprint Professional Mobility Services portfolio, a suite of managed and professional solutions designed to help businesses simplify management and security across an increasingly complex mix of devices in the workplace. New to the portfolio is Sprint Device Management, which delivers mobile device management and security capabilities across multiple carriers and operating systems with industry leading companies such as AirWatch and Zenprise®, Inc. The portfolio also includes Sprint Mobility Management, which was announced in 2011.

While the Sprint Professional Mobility Services suite of capabilities concentrate on added levels of security and management in a multi-carrier environment, Sprint understands that businesses have core expectations of security capabilities in the devices they select. Therefore, Sprint collaborated with mobile device OEMs and application providers to create the new Sprint Professional Grade designation for select smartphones that offer robust “out of the box” security, device management and Exchange Active Sync capabilities.

“We designed Professional Mobility Services as a portfolio of multi-carrier services that can meet any business customers’ unique needs, from providing a greater level of security and management of devices and applications via the new Sprint Device Management to managing the complexity of cross carrier expenses, deployment, lifecycle, policy management and dedicated support,” said Will Souder, vice president of marketing, Sprint. “Businesses are challenged with managing a wide variety of corporate-liable smartphones and tablets along with allowing employees to use their personal device from any carrier for business purposes. Our comprehensive approach with both Professional Mobility Services and the Professional Grade device designation addresses this challenge by providing businesses the flexibility of choice and capabilities.”

Key offers within the Sprint Professional Mobility Services portfolio include:

  • Sprint Device Management benefits businesses that have security and device management requirements that go beyond the standard “out of the box” capabilities provided by basic operating system and application solutions. The new Sprint-billed solutions provide robust device security and management across multiple device types with tools to closely manage Administrator sync settings, alerts for non-compliance, security management, software application or distribution, hardware controls/hardware configuration, advance reporting/analytics and content filtering.

Starting with AirWatch and Zenprise, Sprint is working with industry-recognized leaders in mobile device management and security to support devices across all carriers so customers can deploy and maintain one solution for all of their mobile devices.

  • For businesses that need a more consultative and complex approach to managing their mobile environment beyond just security, Sprint Mobility Management provides a wide array of services for telecom expense management, procurement/logistics, and troubleshooting across all carriers.

Sprint Professional Mobility Services are available through Sprint’s business sales team, along with a broad portfolio of wireless and converged solutions.

“Businesses are seeking solutions to help manage and secure the growing variety of mobile devices and applications required for their employees,” said Suzanne Hopkins, research analyst, Mobile Services at IDC. “Managed mobility solutions no longer only focus on cost savings and contract management; instead incorporating a mobile device management solution is a key component businesses are considering when choosing a managed mobility provider. By incorporating an MDM focus within their Professional Mobility solution, Sprint acknowledges the varied and growing needs of the mobile business.”

Sprint Professional Grade devices offer “out of the box” advanced security and control

With the new Sprint Professional Grade designation, businesses can be confident that select devices will have password policy support, calendar functions, remote wipe, and other advanced Exchange Active Sync policies. In addition, Device Management will be available from solution providers, such as AirWatch and Zenprise, for Professional Grade devices. Professional Grade devices also will support security features including encryption for data at rest and VPN support for remote connectivity to help keep critical data safe,

The first devices available with the Sprint Professional Grade designation are the Motorola PHOTON 4G, Motorola Admiral and Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch. Also included will be the recently announced HTC EVO 4G LTE (the availability date will be announced later). Additional smartphones will be available this year with the designation across a variety of manufacturers and operating systems. Customers will see the Sprint Professional Grade designation as they search for, research and purchase devices on www.sprint.com/business.

Sprint Mobile Security and Network leadership

Sprint is committed to comprehensively addressing mobile security for businesses and consumers, and to developing and raising awareness of security and protection solutions. In 2011 Sprint launched the Mobile Security Council to bring together key players in the mobile ecosystem to address protection, safety and security needs important to consumers and businesses. Charter members of the council are Lookout, Cisco, IBM, Juniper Networks, Motorola Mobility along with its subsidiary 3LM, and Samsung.

In addition, to ensure that future demand for wireless connectivity will be met, Sprint embarked on a multiyear initiative to provide an enhanced network experience expected to provide faster data speeds and improved voice quality, while creating network flexibility, reducing operating costs and improving environmental sustainability. The program, called Network Vision, involves the deployment of multimode base stations across many of Sprint’s cell sites throughout the country. When deployed, Network Vision is expected to improve coverage outside and inside buildings.
