Nokia Siemens Networks launches Operations on Demand portal to provide single entry point for network management
Nokia Siemens Networks has launched a new way of handling the hundreds of millions of data points generated by a typical mobile network every day. The company’s new Operations on Demand portal gives operators a single entry point to their network management processes. Among its many benefits, the portal eliminates the time taken to log-in to multiple different management tools and provides clear steps to solve network issues. The portal’s customizable dashboards can provide multiple views of the network and its topology as well as suggested actions and process steps. This makes it easier to access and share relevant network information across the organization.
Along with an innovative and customizable user interface, Operations on Demand comprises content packs for specific workflows such as site creation, network optimization and network health. Based on the same innovative concept as CEM on Demand, the content packs enable operators to take a phased approach and choose the specific workflows that are relevant and timely for their organization to automate and optimize.
Operations on Demand was developed to meet a clear requirement to simplify network operations. This need is further underscored by the results of a recent survey on Operations Support Systems (OSS)*, by telecoms analyst firm Telesperience, which showed that reducing operating costs and improving the efficiency of operating systems are the two top drivers for change in the OSS domain.
“A single entry point requiring just one login is a key feature of Operations on Demand. For typical network operations personnel, the login process alone can take 20 minutes every day to access their many different tools,” said Peter Patomella, head of the network and subscriber data management business line at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Multiply this by 200 people and that’s a lot of time wasted; as much as 20,000 hours per year for a mid-size or larger operator.”
As well as saving time, Operations on Demand gives operations personnel clear steps to follow in their own language to solve network issues. With insight taken directly from data in the network, it allows personnel to focus on the essential, proposes a course of action and automates the process to optimize network performance or solve a network problem.
“This is a huge step forward in network management, which has traditionally been distributed across technologies, departments and domains with separate tools for each one,” said Patomella.
By simplifying network management and ensuring the quality of network data, Operations on Demand helps improve network key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide the best possible insight for service operations. It also frees up personnel to focus on managing the customer experience, which is one of their top business priorities. At the same time it enables operators to target their deeper analysis where it matters most to maximize the value of their network investments.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ existing products and solutions are the foundation for Operations on Demand. The NetAct product family provides the multi-vendor and multi-technology foundation to obtain the data needed for a complete network overview. With its experience in managing networks for 190 operators serving 700 million subscribers**, the company has deep knowledge of operator processes, which is reflected in the Operations on Demand content packs. Nokia Siemens Networks has also applied the expertise gained from implementing 1300 network planning and optimization projects every year and installing 1200 network management solutions for its customers throughout the world.
