Interxion scoops IT Operator of the Year at Green IT Awards for second time

Win highlights commitment to sustainability and driving data centre efficiency

LONDON – 15 May 2012 INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE:INXN, news), a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announces that it has been named IT Operator of the Year at the Green IT Awards for the second year in a row.

Supported by The Department of Energy and Climate Change, the best products, projects and talent were recognised at the Green IT Awards ceremony on 19 April. Designed to share the excellent work being done in this vital area, the winners of each category were voted for by the readers of Green IT Magazine.
The IT Operator of the Year award recognises Interxion’s belief that the green data centre needs to be at the heart of the whole movement towards sustainable computing. Not only does Interxion ensure that its 29 data centres in 11 European countries are at the cutting-edge of energy efficiency, delivering a track record of performance improvements in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), but the company was also praised for its use of renewable energy. As of January 2012, over half of the power Interxion’s customers consume in its data centres is from solar, wind, geothermic, tidal or hydro energy sources, and Interxion’s operations in London, Zurich, Copenhagen, Sweden, Amsterdam, Hilversum, Madrid, Frankfurt and Belgium are 100% powered by renewable energy sources.
Commenting on the win, Greg McCulloch UK MD, Interxion, commented, “We are thrilled to have been recognised in the Green IT Awards for the second time. As IT becomes pervasive in delivering products and services to an increasing number of people across the globe and data volumes continue to grow, our commitment to increasing efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint is more important than ever. We are proud of our leading role in educating the industry and establishing best-practice metrics, and we look forward to continuing our work with organisations such as the Green Grid and Uptime Institute, to establish efficiency metrics and drive forward the green agenda.”
