Huawei SingleEPC to Build User Experience-Centric LTE Network

[Barcelona, Spain, May 29, 2012]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced at the 2012 LTE World Summit a new company vision, “BON” (Business, Operation and Network), for focusing on mobile broadband (MBB) user experience.

BON was introduced in a speech given by Xu Weizhong, Huawei President of Packet Core Networks for the Wireless Network Business Unit. He said:”The biggest value of LTE networks are the improvements they bring to end user experience. The EPC (Evolved Packet Core) is the key point of loading and managing all LTE services and ensuring end-to-end user experience.” Huawei created BON to help build user experience-centric LTE networks and help operators successfully deploy new future-orientated technologies.

For the “Business” part of BON, the idea is to build up open networks and open services. As an example, by opening network info to the end user, like network speeds, network availability (for GPRS, UMTS, LTE and WiFi) as well as subscription status, users are free to monitor network quality themselves, and potentially buy specific subscription packages based on usage needs and wants. Huawei demonstrated its Networker solution based on the SingleEPC network solution during the 2012 Mobile World Congress to realize the aforementioned requirements to definitively improve user experience.

For the “Operation” part of BON, Huawei created models for KPIs (Key Performance Indicator) and CEIs (Customer Experience Indicator) to improve user experience. For the “Network” part of BON, Huawei is committed to deploying solutions that support ultra-broadband, zero-waiting and ubiquitous connectivity to ease network bandwidth bottlenecks and ensure end-to-end user experience.

As of 2012 Q1, Huawei has deployed more than 130 EPC commercial and trial networks, and has signed 55 commercial contracts with operators worldwide. According to a GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) report released in May 2012 (“Evolution to LTE”), 72 commercial LTE networks have been launched globally; among these, Huawei deployed 27 commercial EPC networks.
