Acme Packet Charts the Course to Cloud-based IP Communications Networks

Acme Packet Continues to Lead the Industry by Delivering the Broadest Range of Platform Choices for Session Delivery Network Solutions

Interconnect 2012, MIAMI, FL – May 17, 2012Acme Packet® (NASDAQ:APKT), at its annual Interconnect customer conference, today unveiled a series of groundbreaking new solutions for its session delivery network portfolio. These solutions advance the company’s strategy to provide customers with the broadest range of platforms, from purpose-built hardware to virtual machines to elastic cloud infrastructures.

Highlights:

  • Acme Packet introduced new virtualization-based session border controller (SBC) solutions for both enterprises and service providers. The Net-Net Enterprise Session Director-Virtual Machine Edition and the Net-Net Session Director-Virtual Machine Edition give service providers and enterprises the flexibility to optimize their network architectures by installing Acme Packet’s market-leading software on a dedicated or virtualized server. The software includes a complete SBC feature set, delivering vendor-neutral interoperability, trusted security, and first-class reliability, along with cost-effective scalability for enterprises of all sizes, as well as small service providers.
  • Acme Packet demonstrated new capabilities for its comprehensive session management solution, Net-Net SIP Multimedia Xpress (SMX), which consolidates up to eight IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) functions, and the market-leading SBC, into a single solution. New capabilities include the ability to deploy SMX in highly virtual, dynamic cloud infrastructures, supporting voice over IP (VoIP), rich communications suite (RCS), and voice over long term evolution (VoLTE) services. As a result, customers can sharply reduce capital and operation expenditures, speed up the deployment process, and easily scale to support mass-market subscriber requirements.
  • Acme Packet introduced the Net-Net 7000, a new platform that supports Acme Packet’s Net-Net Diameter Director and Net-Net Session Router products. This platform consists of the Acme Packet Net-Net OS installed on a third-party server for high-performance processing in a simple, turnkey solution. The Net-Net 7000 is optimized for core SIP and Diameter routing, allowing service providers to build highly scalable and cost-effective next-generation signaling cores.

Quotes:

“With the new virtual machine and server-based session border controllers, Acme Packet is changing the game by making it dead-simple for enterprises to acquire E-SBCs for deployment in SIP trunking services,” said Gahn Lane, vice president, service providers, Westcon Group. “This new offering is one of the reasons Westcon is offering our new Gold Seal support services, an installation and support program designed to complement Acme Packet software-based session border controllers.”

“Forward-thinking service providers are looking to deliver rich communications services in ways that can reduce complexity and up-front investment, while at the same time speeding the introduction of new revenue generating capabilities,” said Diane Myers, principal analyst, Infonetics Research. “Leveraging a cloud-based approach allows service providers the ability to create a next-generation network with a flexible approach to delivering and scaling new services.”

“We believe that cloud-based architectures offer an advanced solution for streamlining the deployment path and lowering the capital and operational expenditures to get next-generation services up and running,” said Patrick MeLampy, chief technology officer, Acme Packet. “Together with our purpose-built hardware, our new cloud-enabled software provides the broadest range of solutions to help our customers meet whatever technical and business challenges they face in the shift to next-generation IP communications networks.”
