Europe’s premier broadcast network provider, TeliaSonera International Carrier, today announced that each week it will deliver 35 match feeds of NHL games to its customer, and rights holder, Viasat in Stockholm for the next five years reinforcing their ability to enable cross-border fiber-based delivery of live international sport broadcasts.
This landmark announcement highlights the performance advantages of delivering on fiber internationally. It is possible due to the scale, reliability and resilience of the TeliaSonera International Carrier media platform. TeliaSonera International Carrier’s customised “blue and red” network concept routes feeds on two geographically recognised, diverse paths so that even if there is unexpected network disruption on one path it is invisible to the broadcast customer regardless of the distance between the location of the original transmission and the play-out.
The solution delivered by TeliaSonera International Carrier underlines its ability to manage complex broadcast technology challenges through partnership with other service providers. TeliaSonera chose Snell to supply a consignment of its award-winning Alchemist frame rate convertors, which help to maintain the high quality levels demanded for fast motion HD sport broadcasts. Encompass Digital Media was chosen to provide the US contribution due to its network origination credentials. The result is a high-quality solution delivered, with minimum fuss, to Viasat, enabling growing audiences in Scandinavia to enjoy quality ice-hockey.
The deal is a continuation of TeliaSonera International Carrier’s long standing relationship with Viasat but is the first delivery of Occasional Use sports for the broadcaster and forms part of a growing sports content portfolio they deliver globally.
