Key Takeaways:

  • PrimeTel selects Sonus Networks to build new SIP backbone network for its business, residential, mobile and wholesale carrier services
  • PrimeTel will use Sonus equipment to offer SIP and PRI trunking services, business and residential voice services and interconnect services across Cyprus, Europe and the Middle East
  • Sonus was selected to provide an end-to-end solution including SIP trunking, session border control, subscriber voice services, PSTN interworking and network management

WESTFORD, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Sonus Networks (NASDAQ:SONS, news, filings), a global leader in SIP communications, today announced that PrimeTel PLC has selected Sonus to provide its next-generation, end-to-end VoIP network solution. A new customer for Sonus, PrimeTel also offers wholesale Voice over IP (VoIP) interconnect services to other service providers and carriers throughout Europe and the Middle East.

The Sonus network will replace PrimeTel’s existing VoIP network and allow the service provider to increase its market share by delivering services such as SIP trunking, triple-play and quad-play bundles-marketed as Mobile3play and Mobile4play-with a higher degree of reliability and quality. Sonus was selected for its ability to deliver an end-to-end VoIP network solution that would be easy to manage, upgrade and monetize while providing robust security and interoperability. At the core of the new PrimeTel network will be the industry-leading SBC 9000™ Session Border ControllerSonus GSX™ Series Softswitches and the ASX™ Telephony Feature Server.

Quotes:

“We were looking for a strategic partner to build a robust and future-proof network, one that will drive customer loyalty and allow us to offer new value-added services,” said Steve Lewis, General Manager of Technology at PrimeTel. “Sonus was the one firm capable of providing an end-to-end solution with SIP trunking, session border control, subscriber voice services, PSTN interworking and network management. Having only one partner for all network and service elements greatly improves our operational efficiency so we can focus on meeting the needs of our customers.”

“PrimeTel has done an excellent job of distinguishing itself in a competitive EMEA market by broadening its horizons through wholesale services and, most recently, its Mobile4play services,” said Adrian Patterson, Vice President of EMEA, Sonus. “We look forward to helping PrimeTel as it transitions its network to support voice, video and data and are excited to play a part in what promises to be a very bright future for PrimeTel.”
