[Berlin, Germany, 10 April, 2012]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, with excellent site solution designs, won a Certificate of Merit in the “Best in Class Site Design” Beauty Contest organized by Deutsche Telekom (DT). This assignment demonstrates Huawei’s new position as one of the industry-leading site solution suppliers.
The mobile and communications industry is now evolving from traditional voice networks to broadband data dominated networks. This change poses a great challenge for all operators on how to adapt to the transformation by setting up multi-frequency and multi-mode networks. And, in addition, they have to provide more environmental friendly products and solutions. That is why major suppliers of DT were invited to attend this contest to show whether they are ready for the transformation.
Doug Balchin, DT Infrastructure Systems and Energy Manager, stated: “The mobile telecommunication industry is experiencing a very dynamic period of transformation. New RAN technologies such as LTE are in the initial stages of deployment, others such as HSPA + are being delivered as upgrades on top of existing UMTS networks, “Single RAN” concept is evolving and its adoption is on the deployment roadmap of many operators. All these RAN related changes mandate new requirements towards the locations of where the RAN equipment is deployed (the mobile sites). So it’s very important to find the best site solution which not only allows for a seamless adoption of new RAN technologies and equipment but also contributes to a more efficient use of resources, and reduced implementation and operational costs.”
In this contest, suppliers were invited to design green and innovative site solutions for nine scenarios. Optimal solutions will be the basis of the construction and modernization for DT group. Huawei raised 15 site solutions for the nine scenarios including outdoor rooftop sites, indoor rooftop sites, tower sites, special rooftop sites and so on. Huawei end to end site solution minimizes the number of units on site by high performance base station and active antenna technology. It helps the operators to reduce TCO and to operate green energy solution while enabling fast site deployments . These solutions consume energy efficiently by using advanced communications and electronic technologies, save energy and reduce emission by fully utilizing renewable energy sources. Huawei suggested an All-on-Pole solution that integrates rectifiers with the Multi-frequency multi-mode site / a conversion efficiency of 96.8% / free cooling systems (FCSs) energy storage system. The NetEco system helps the customers to reduce equipment room space by more than 75% and site power consumption by more than 50%. By these solutions, operator could face the deployment challenge for the next 3-5 years.
Hou Jinlong, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Huawei Energy and Infrastructure Product Line, outlined that, “Based on the deep understanding of the telecommunications industry over more than twenty years and the maintenance experience on more than one million sites all over the world, Huawei has promoted from a leading communications equipment supplier to a globally advanced site solution supplier to provide ubiquitous broadband service in the mobile broadband (MBB) and fixed broadband (FBB) eras.”
