Uplink and Sprint to Offer New CDMA Alarm Communicator Solution

Uplink and Sprint offer a potent combination: the enhanced security benefits of CDMA wireless technology and the availability of bandwidth choice to serve each customer’s unique application needs

ATLANTA (BUSINESS WIRE), March 28, 2012 – Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) and Uplink, a trusted source in the security industry for alarm communicators since 1996, announced plans today to introduce the new Uplink CDMA Alarm Communicator powered by Sprint in the summer of 2012. The advanced machine-to-machine (M2M) security solution will deliver residential and commercial customers the confidence of using secure CDMA technology for their primary or back-up wireless alarm communications.

Uplink was the first major alarm panel provider to offer a Sprint CDMA-based alarm solution, delivering CDMA devices since 2009. The new Alarm Communicator marks the beginning of a planned expansion of the CDMA security portfolio. Originally designed for military applications, CDMA wireless transmission is a proven technology in preventing security breaches. Sprint CDMA provides multiple layers of enhanced security and protection against wireless jamming and offers additional technical benefits.

The Uplink CDMA Alarm Communicator will feature alarm and event reporting capabilities, real-time signal delivery in Contact ID, SIA, Modem IIe/IIIa/IIIa2 and Pulse 4/2 formats, Web management from a secure dealer portal, and fast installation with automated activation.

“This CDMA Alarm Communicator will offer customers a potent solution that raises the bar for wireless security, and is further enhanced by Sprint’s leadership in location-based services,” said Michael Boyle-general manager,Uplink. “Uplink remains tightly focused on making cellular communications simple and worry-free for the alarm industry, and we are uniquely positioned as a ‘port in the storm’ for our customers as connectivity options and availability rapidly change.”

Sprint’s flexible network technology provides Uplink customers continued access to proven and effective bandwidth for most alarm needs. The new CDMA Alarm Communicator will offer a cost-effective alternative for Uplink Dealers. The new Uplink solution will enable alarm customers to centralize connection management and maintain high-quality wireless alarm connectivity for years to come.

“Sprint is committed to an M2M strategy that creates value as our partners and customers define value. Cost-effective CDMA 1xRTT is one vital element in that strategy,” said Wayne Ward-vice president of Emerging Solutions, Sprint. “M2M customers can use Sprint CDMA with assurance of its ongoing availability to support the transmission technology generally used by security providers today. Sprint’s Network Vision plan enables us to meet alarm customers’ current infrastructure requirements, while also offering a path to broadband connectivity, depending on their future needs.”

Network Vision is Sprint’s plan to consolidate multiple network technologies into one seamless network. The goal of Network Vision is to enhance network coverage, call quality and data speeds for customers. With Network Vision, multimodal equipment should allow every wireless tower to efficiently support multiple technologies operating on multiple spectrum bands. Sprint’s multi-billion dollar Network Vision technology upgrade is expected to be backward compatible with existing technologies.
