Telefónica Spain and Huawei Announce World’s First Energy Saving Solution to reduce energy consumption

[Barcelona, Spain, March 1, 2012]: Telefónica Spain and Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced their jointly innovated high efficiency, energy saving solution which is a world’s first. At MWC 2012 in Barcelona, the two companies showcased this technology from a Telefónica Spain live site.

Due to ever increasing energy costs and the importance of reducing one’s ecological footprint, it is vital that telecoms operators can get advanced and energy efficient solutions to meet these challenges. To fill these needs, Huawei developed energy saving solutions, which significantly reduce direct and indirect CO2 emissions for operators. As a global leader in sustainability, Telefónica sought to partner with Huawei to deploy an off-grid site in Madrid.

"I was pleasantly surprised by the success of Huawei´s solution, which is a milestone achievement," said Mr. Guillermo Garcia Tejerina, head of Infrastructure Energy Solutions for Telefónica Spain. "Huawei energy solution is saving an estimated 60% of CO2 and reducing site visits by five times, and contribute to achieve their goal on common social responsibility."
