Be Green in More Ways than One With LG Rumor Reflex from Sprint and Boost Mobile

Latest addition to the LG Rumor family boasts environmentally friendly attributes at an affordable price

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. & SAN DIEGO (BUSINESS WIRE), March 08, 2012 – Proving that it is easy to be environmentally friendlier without sacrificing style, affordability and functionality, Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) and its no-contract brand, Boost Mobile, joined with LG Mobile today in announcing the upcoming availability of LG Rumor Reflex™ on the Sprint 3G Network.

LG Rumor Reflex marks the fifth device from Sprint with eco-friendly attributes and the second from Boost Mobile. As the fourth device in the Sprint and LG Rumor family, and the successor to last year’s popular LG Rumor Touch™, LG Rumor Reflex boasts a large 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel camera and camcorder, built-in GPS and MicroSD card slot supporting up to 32GB of memory.

LG Rumor Reflex in a Titan Grey color will be available Sunday, March 11, in all Sprint retail channels, including www.sprint.com and 1-800-SPRINT1 for $29.99 with a new two-year service agreement and $50 mail-in rebate via reward card1 (excludes taxes and surcharges). The device will be offered later in White.

The device will be available on Boost Mobile without a contract Thursday, March 29, for $79.99 (excluding taxes) at Boost Mobile’s exclusive retail stores, select independent wireless dealer locations across the country, and at www.boostmobile.com with free shipping.

LG Rumor Reflex is compatible with Boost Mobile’s $50 Monthly Unlimited plan with Shrinking Payments. For every six on-time payments, the cost of Boost Mobile’s Monthly Unlimited plan will shrink by $5, eventually getting down to as low as $35 a month for unlimited nationwide talk, text messaging, web, email and calls to 411. Payments do not need to be consecutive to qualify for the next savings milestone.

“Sprint believes it is important to keep evolving our handset portfolio with not only iconic devices but also with quick-messaging phones for customers looking for easy communications,” said David Owens, vice president – Product Development, Sprint. “The availability of LG Rumor Reflex for both Sprint and Boost Mobile customers showcases our consumer choice through our multibrand strategy. Customers appreciate the ability to select a great phone and choose between a contract or no-contract option.”

Eco-friendly Attributes

Earlier this year Sprint announced its environmental scorecard now requires all phones go through the UL Environment certification process, setting an industry-first standard to help improve reparability and drive more sustainable packaging. This device has also received the coveted UL Environment Platinum Certification, the highest level of environmental performance recognized by sustainable requirements established by UL Environment and Sprint.2

“LG is committed to being a leader of change in the mobile industry and is continually working to find new ways to weave recyclable alternatives throughout our product lineup,” said Tim O’Brien, vice president of LG Mobile. “We are proud of our continued collaboration with Sprint to develop budget-friendly and environmentally conscious devices that don’t compromise function or design.”

  • The phone’s outer cover is constructed of 31 percent post-consumer recycled materials by weight as defined by UL Environment.
  • The battery charger qualifies for the most energy efficient 5-star rating for extremely low power draw while still plugged in after your phone is fully charged.
  • The device has eliminated the use of many environmentally sensitive materials, including polyvinyl chloride (PVC), brominated flame retardants (BFR), halogen, beryllium, phthalates and nickel.
  • The device is Carbon-Free certified to offset the carbon footprint of the phone’s full lifecycle.
  • The Sprint device comes in fully recyclable packaging that is printed with soy inks, contains up to 87 percent post-consumer paper and was engineered with a glueless construction.
  • The Boost Mobile device comes in fully recyclable packaging that uses soy inks, and it contains up to 30 percent post-consumer paper. Up to 70 percent of the thermoform plastic contains a combination of post-industrial or post-consumer waste.

Saving the Environment one Buyback at a time

Sprint and Boost Mobile customers alike can save even more money with the Buyback Program, which allows customers to trade in their old Sprint or Boost Mobile eligible device in exchange for an instant phone credit on their next phone purchase or an account credit of up to $300.

Sprint was the first U.S. carrier to buy back competitor phones in store and offer an instant service credit toward the purchase of a customer’s next device at point of sale. Late last year, Compass Intelligence, a decision analytics research and consulting firm, ranked the Sprint Buyback Program as the best in the industry. The goal and benefit of the Buyback programs are to collect old, unwanted wireless phones in an effort to responsibly recycle the 135 million cell phones discarded every year according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
