Top digital media video workflow solutions and applications company to increase presence and offering through investment from leading data centre provider in Europe
London, UK – 7 February 2012 – iStreamPlanet, a leader in live Internet managed broadcast services including on-premise and cloud-based automated video workflow solutions and applications, announced today that Interxion Holding N.V. (NYSE:INXN, news), is making an investment in iStreamPlanet’s Series A round of funding being led by Intel Capital. Over the past year the companies partnered to build out iStreamPlanet’s European broadcast operations centre inside Interxion’s London Data Centre media hub enabling content owners and distributors to securely digitize, publish and monetize their media assets whilst delivering the highest quality end user experience.
“We are pleased to have Interxion as an investor and strategic partner to help solve the tremendous complexities associated with scaling the entire digital media infrastructure, platform and services,” said Mio Babic, CEO of iStreamPlanet. “Interxion’s strategically located and interconnected data centres, combined with their media community, will play a key role as access points for our next generation of video workflow products and services.”
Working from their facility in Interxion’s London data centre, iStreamPlanet has already successfully managed several major sporting events, including the French Open, Championships at Wimbledon, UEFA Under 21 Championships and Tour de France. iStreamPlanet uses facilities at Interxion’s 28 data centres across 11 countries as access points for iStreamPlanet’s video workflow automation platform. The geographical footprint allows customers throughout Europe to identify the closest data centre to ingest and digitize their content. Interxion’s scale provides iStreamPlanet’s customers the ability to ingest more content, not only on a greater scale, but with far greater savings due to geographical proximity. iStreamPlanet’s customers also benefit from reduced communication costs by eliminating the need for real-time satellite transmission.
“We have a footprint that gives us access to approximately 75% European GDP and one of the fastest growing market segments is digital media,” said David Ruberg, Chairman and CEO of Interxion. “Over the past year, while working with iStreamPlanet, we have seen their commitment to excellence along with their ability to execute and deliver with the highest performance on some of the world’s most complex digital media events. Our data centres are some of the world’s most media-friendly, which is why we are seeing strong growth in our media community. By having iStreamPlanet’s products and services available, we expect to accelerate adoption of video usage throughout our customer-base and attract new content providers into our data centres.”
iStreamPlanet will use the funds from the investment to further expand its presence in Europe as well as accelerate product development. Additionally, iStreamPlanet is proud to announce that Robin Cole is joining the company as VP of Product and Services Marketing. Prior to iStreamPlanet, Robin lead worldwide strategy and business development for Sony Electronics, product marketing at Apple across the MacBook portfolio and most recently held senior marketing roles at Microsoft across several leading products and technologies including Windows Media, Windows Phone, and Expression and Visual Studio.
