[Barcelona, Spain, 26 Feb, 2011]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today launched a new generation of hybrid power solutions, called PowerCube, which are the world’s first micro-grid system communications sites, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain.
Increased power consumption and energy shortages have been a concern and challenge for the global ICT industry in recent years. Local operators face significant pressures as traditional sites generate high fuel consumption and maintenance costs, and in rural areas, more than 500,000 communication sites have unstable grids.
Huawei designed the PowerCube to help operators overcome these challenges. PowerCube uses Huawei H.E.BUS technology to incorporate additional energy sources, such as solar, to achieve a uniform energy platform and intelligent switching, that will enable operators to significantly reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions.
At MWC 2012, Huawei’s advanced green solutions have attracted the interest of operators such as Telefonica, MTN, Vodafone, AT&T, Telenor, FT, and DT. Telefonica plans to cooperate with Huawei at MWC to demonstrate green site energy solutions.
Mr. Juan Eduardo Cerusico, head of Telefonica corporation energy and infrastructure, said: “High efficiency, smart, flexible and simple solutions for site and energy will build a solid foundation for the transformation of the ICT industry. We expect Huawei, as a comprehensive ICT solutions provider can work together with partners in telecommunication energy industry to develop better E2E energy solutions.”
Hou Jinlong, the president of Huawei Energy and Infrastructure Product Line, said: “Based on our deep understanding of the ICT industry, as well as millions of site power experience, Huawei would be integrated communication site supplier of the world from communication equipment leader and achieve the combination of electronic information control technology in the communication field and energy systems of industrial areas, and get the successful of high efficiency conversion & utilization of energy in ICT field.”
