Mankato, Minn. – Feb. 9, 2012 – HickoryTech (NASDAQ:HTCO, news, filings) announces today this first winner of its “My Life My Internet” video contest, which challenged students and teachers to submit a short video on how they use broadband services. Austin Garcia, a junior at Mankato West High School won a hand-held video as well as five video cameras for his school, a total prize value of $510.
Students and teachers across the HickoryTech service area were encouraged to enter the contest submit a video highlighting how they connect, learn, recharge, study and socialize at school and at home using the Internet. Garcia’s winning video, which creatively communicated how he uses the Internet, was selected from numerous video submissions by students and teachers across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa.
“As a local broadband leader, HickoryTech supports technology integration in the classroom and wants to provide an incentive for students and educators to adopt new technologies that will enhance student learning,” said Jennifer Spaude, director of Investor Relations and Marketing. “It’s clear from these video submissions; students at all ages are using the power of broadband to explore new ways of learning.”
