Meridian School District in Idaho Puts New Dedicated Network to Work

LOUISVILLE, Colo.– January  17, 2012– Zayo Group announces today it implemented a dedicated fiber network for Meridian Joint School District in Idaho providing a 100 megabit Ethernet service to forty-nine schools and administration buildings. Meridian Joint School District serves over 35,000 students and more than 2,500 employees.

The scalable, Gigabit Ethernet network enables knowledge-sharing by delivering connectivity and digital voice access to Meridian, a large and fast-growing public school district in Idaho. Additionally, the new dedicated Ethernet network is a private network, ensuring the protection of data throughout the district.

“This network increases our district’s Internet access, internal capacity and reliability giving our district access to technology applications that enhance learning,” says Jerry Reininger, Director of Information Systems for Joint School District No. 2 in Meridian. “Zayo worked with our district to understand our requirements up front, and designed a solution to meet the district’s need for building an E-Rate compliant high-bandwidth network.”

The Meridian School District network encompasses forty-nine sites connected across six fiber rings. It adds 46 route miles to Zayo’s network footprint in the Boise metropolitan area, whichspans 175 on-net buildings and 182 route miles of fiber.

“School districts and universities are finding creative ways to leverage telecommunications services to enrich the education experience and reduce costs,” states Steve Cardwell, Vice President, West Region of Zayo.  “Zayo delivers private, dedicated Ethernet and Fiber networks with virtually unlimited capacity for growth. We believe networks like Meridian’s will become the standard for districts across the country over the next few years.”
