Justin.tv’s Live Video Platform Leverages Telx C3 Data Center

Leading Streaming Video Innovator Builds World’s Largest Gaming Community, TwitchTV; Stores and Moves Massive Amounts of Data and Video Traffic Using Telx’s San Francisco Cloud Connection Center

New York, NY (December 13, 2011) – Telx® today announced that Justin.tv, the Web’s biggest live video platform serving 31 million users a month, has selected Telx as its mission-critical infrastructure colocation provider for the launch of TwitchTV, a new and fast-growing online gaming community. Justin.tv was already a colocation customer at Telx’s San Francisco C3 Cloud Connection Center, and has expanded its vital gaming infrastructure in this key location, leveraging an industry-leading community of telecommunications carriers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to boost network uptime and video streaming quality. Telx’s secure, carrier-neutral Cloud Connection Center at 200 Paul St. in San Francisco serves as the primary hub for storage and delivery of big data and video traffic that powers TwitchTV.

“While Justin.tv is powered by several global data centers, Telx’s San Francisco facility is the ‘brains’ of our infrastructure operations. Telx has been a vital partner for us as we execute our growth strategy to include the gaming customer base,” said Jonathan Shipman, Director of Operations, Justin.tv. “We have leveraged the large community of network providers Telx offers in this location for three years. When it came time to launch our online gaming community, TwitchTV, we were able to expand our presence with Telx in an organized, cost-effective way. Telx is more receptive than most colocation firms and they understood our need to scale quickly to support this new venture. Today, TwitchTV is quickly becoming the world’s largest Web-based gaming community, thanks in part to the services offered by Telx.”

Justin.tv lets users stream video content live to the Internet from their webcams and mobile phones. The company began its Beta phase of TwitchTV in 2010 and within six months, the site attracted more than 8 million users. Officially launched in June 2011, TwitchTV gives gamers the ability to connect with one another around the games they love, finding live broadcasts featuring games from every genre and platform. The portal allows users to talk to the top players in the world through live chat and watch the largest tournaments in competitive gaming with the biggest prize pools. Gamers have viewed over 1 billion minutes of content and counting. As with streaming video, network uptime for gaming is a priority, along with quality of service for users who have high expectations of their video. By choosing Telx as their colocation partner near the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, Justin.tv can safely move large amounts of data traffic, and its gamer customers are only a cross-connect away from high quality content.

“Telx is proud of the growth and accomplishments of Justin.tv since becoming a colocation customer at our C3 data center in San Francisco,” said Chris Eldredge, President and General Manager of InterConnection Products for Telx. “We are committed to helping innovative content creators like Justin.tv continue to grow by meeting their data center capacity and reliability needs, allowing them to focus on what they do best.”

Join Telx live at the Pacific Telecommunications Council’s annual conference, PTC 2012, January 15-18, 2012 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Telx’s Chris Eldredge will be a panelist in the interactive session, Cloud and Enterprise Services, Monday, Jan. 16 at 3:45 p.m. For more information, send an e-mail to Telxevents@telx.com .
