Epsilon Leads Deployment of Dynamic Optical Layer – Creating Flexible Metro Network to Deliver Services through Singapore Hub
Ottawa and Singapore – December 5, 2011
Epsilon Telecommunications today announced it is upgrading its Singapore metro network with BTI Systems Dynamic Optical Layer to provide full wavelength and service flexibility across all major co-location facilities in Singapore. Epsilon is the first announced customer deploying the Dynamic Optical Layer, enabling rapid delivery of enhanced connectivity services between major Southeast Asia regional telecom hubs and globally utilizing the power of Epsilon’s Singapore rich interconnection and meet-me network.
Epsilon has a global footprint of more than 60 point-of-presence (POP) sites that deliver SDH, IP, Ethernet, co-location and value added services to service providers through its carrier-neutral interconnect platform. Epsilon chose to upgrade its existing fixed 40-channel optical layer with the Dynamic Optical Layer to ensure that its Singapore metro network can serve as a flexible and rapid interconnect platform to support the booming demand for optical, packet and wavelength services for customers throughout Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.
With a focus on creating high-capacity application-aware service infrastructures for the metro, BTI Systems introduced the Dynamic Optical Layer to the market in August 2011, after working with Epsilon to shape and define industry leading interconnect requirements. The Dynamic Optical Layer brings together ROADM-on-a-Blade and DWDM Line Amplifier modules with an Intelligent Control System that automatically monitors and adjusts the optical layer to meet changing demands. This makes it easy for service providers like Epsilon to instantly deploy wavelength services with improved optical performance and scalability.
“This is a pioneering project,” said George Szlosarek, CTO of Epsilon. “With BTI Systems, we have gained a strong and competent partner in helping us to make optimal use of our network resources to establish connections for our customers in a market where bandwidth consumption for optical services is exploding faster everywhere around the world.”
“Service providers find themselves under enormous pressure to act; they have to meet the fast-growing capacity and traffic demands quickly,” said Andy Howard, Epsilon Global Account Director for BTI Systems. “Our Dynamic Optical Layer removes the operational complexity we see in metro networks so that service providers like Epsilon can focus on their customers’ services and less on characterizing optical performance. The trust that Epsilon has placed in BTI Systems underscores our ability to meet the challenges in metro networks today and in the future.”
The Dynamic Optical Layer is live in Epsilon’s global network operations hub in Singapore providing rapid interconnect today.
Epsilon is an international operator with a core focus on global voice and data connectivity solutions for Carriers and Service Providers. They provide SDH and Ethernet connectivity in their global POPs and the product portfolio further includes Colocation, System integration, network management and maintenance services. Currently their Network extends to over 60 carrier-neutral data centers across Western Europe, America and Asia. In these Points of Presence they currently service around 300 international carriers and have access to well over 1000 operators. Epsilon operates a multivendor and best of breed strategy for the supply of equipment and underlying infrastructure, having over 200 network elements currently deployed under management.
