ADTRAN Brings Next Generation IP Communications to the University of North Alabama

Campus-wide deployment of NetVanta UC solution eliminates legacy PBX, enables next-generation features and applications

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 6, 2011– ADTRAN®, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN, news, filings), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that the University of North Alabama (UNA) has deployed ADTRAN’s NetVanta® Unified Communications (UC) solution for a campus-wide network migration from TDM to IP. By deploying ADTRAN’s open-architecture NetVanta UC, the university was able to leverage its existing infrastructure as the base for its migration to advanced UC services, saving significant cost and time, as well as preserving the capital value of their existing network. With NetVanta UC deployed, UNA can select the appropriate feature set and scale to support thousands of current users and, when needed, easily extend their reach and service portfolio to meet future communication demands.

“UNA needed a reliable solution to support our communication needs today and in the future and ADTRAN’s proven stability and continued innovation made it the right partner,” said Stephen Putman, Interim Director of Computer and Telecommunication Services at the University of North Alabama. “NetVanta UC has provided UNA with an affordable solution on which we can update our entire, campus-wide communications network to provide higher-quality communications services and the means to easily expand the deployment as needed as our campus grows.”

UNA selected ADTRAN’s NetVanta UC Enterprise Communication Server for its advanced support and flexibility and to enable a rich, IP-based feature set that includes unified messaging, voicemail, fax server, call redirection services, auto-attendant and more. Given UNA’s large user base, the ability to tailor the configuration to meet the specific deployment criteria of each individual customer provided additional advantage. The NetVanta UC solution allows users to “blend and extend” their existing communications network and enables users to migrate at their own pace. The solution will allow UNA to eventually eliminate its legacy PBX solution, offer new and better services, and afford the university significant cost savings.

“NetVanta UC is an ideal solution for campus environments, like UNA, that are looking to upgrade or move away from aging TDM-based technologies and serve their staff, faculty, students and guests with next-generation communications capabilities,” said Jeff Wissing, NetVanta UC Product Manager, ADTRAN’s Enterprise Networks Division. “By selecting NetVanta UC, UNA has taken the necessary steps to migrate its network to IP and can rest easy knowing those steps are backed by a strong product, extensive feature set, the dedication of our service and support departments, and ADTRAN’s continued commitment to product excellence.”
