TelecityGroup’s commitment to environmental best practice recognised in CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme performance league table

TelecityGroup is the highest ranked data centre provider, third place in the ICT sector and in the top 5% overall of over 2000 participant organisations.

TelecityGroup, Europe’s industry-leading provider of premium carrier-neutral data centres, is the highest ranked data centre provider and has achieved third place in the ICT sector and 103rd place overall in the 2010/11 CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme performance league table published by the Environment Agency.

The first ever CRC Energy Efficiency performance league table, to be published annually, ranks over 2,000 organisations in the UK that consume more than 6,000MWh electricity per year according to a weighted score. The score takes into account the steps an organisation has taken to implement energy management and reporting procedures. These include installing Automated Voluntary Metering (AVM) systems and achieving the Carbon Trust Standard accreditation, a rigorous certification process requiring organisations to measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions across their operations.

TelecityGroup is committed to minimising its environmental impact, focusing on new operational and management processes developed through its Energy Management Programme and the implementation of the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres’ best practices across its data centre portfolio. In 2010 TelecityGroup became the first data centre provider to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard, for demonstrating a significant improvement in carbon management across the company’s UK operations and subsidiaries, and committing to delivering ongoing year-on-year improvements. This achievement, alongside ongoing improvements to its energy metering, contributed significantly to TelecityGroup’s ranking in the table.

Rob Coupland, COO, TelecityGroup said: “The IT infrastructure that supports the rapidly growing digital economy typically resides in highly connected data centres such as those we operate.  As the corresponding demand for data centre services grows, the data centre industry clearly has a vital role to play in creating a more environmentally efficient economy.

“TelecityGroup is committed to leading our industry in becoming more energy efficient. By virtue of our scale and expertise, IT equipment housed in TelecityGroup data centres is far more efficiently cooled than if it were hosted in organisations’ smaller proprietary server rooms. Our high ranking in the performance league table is a reflection of our investment, innovation and proactive management to measure and significantly reduce our relative carbon emissions, and we’re pleased this has been recognised.”
