Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA Help Deployed Military Personnel Maintain Wireless Accounts

Program Available Nov. 11, Veterans Day

WARREN, N.J. AND IRVINE, C.A.  Nov. 9– This week, the country will celebrate Veterans Day to honor those who currently serve our country and the veterans who proudly served in years past. To help deployed military personnel in some small way, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA are each launching a Deployed Military Program. Effective Nov. 11, 2011, the Sprint no-contract brands will allow service men and women to keep their accounts and phone numbers intact while deployed overseas.

“We’re so grateful for the service provided by those in our military; dealing with mobile phone payments is the last thing they should be concerned with when preparing to leave. It’s our pleasure to try and make one small logistical task easier before being deployed,” said John Carney, senior vice president-Consumer Marketing for Sprint, overseeing the Prepaid Group. “We look forward to serving them again when they return home and wish them the best while they are deployed.”
When a customer wants to participate in the Deployed Military Program, they simply contact Boost or Virgin Mobile Customer Care and will then be directed to dedicated agents working on this initiative. The account will be identified as requiring no Top-Up or payment during the deployed period, and any automatic payment activity will be removed. The customer will be asked to provide personal contact information as well as additional state-side contacts to receive notification before the end of the Deployed Military period. “Of course, if the customer is still deployed or to be deployed again, we will extend the program,” added Carney.

Sprint has had a similar program in place for its postpaid customers since 2003. The company has a strong corporate reputation for working with various branches of the armed services and takes pride in its military recruitment program that focuses on hiring veterans and members of the Reserve and National Guard, as well as transitioning active military and their spouses or other family members. Sprint has been widely recognized for this strong commitment with multiple awards for being a military-friendly employer.
