Verizon Achieves Distinguished ISO/IEC 27001:2005 Certification for Information Security Management

Converged Security Operations Center Provides Highly Secure Environment for Managed Customers’ Information

October 11, 2011

NEW YORK – Verizon has earned another prestigious ISO certification, one for attaining ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification for the company’s Converged Security Operations Center, located in Cary, N.C.

Verizon’s CSOC provides large-business and government customers with managed security services including real-time monitoring and management of security devices and applications. This seamless service delivery means these customers benefit from improved reliability and performance, increased agility and visibility of account management, and quicker responsiveness.

ISO, the world’s largest standards organization, publishes the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standard for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and the underlying information systems.

“Safeguarding customer information is job one, and ISO certification gives peace of mind to our customers who know Verizon is in accordance with a premier standards organization and its strict guidelines and principles for effective information security management,” said Wes Sobbott, director of global security operations for Verizon.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification is valid for three years, with surveillance audits performed every year by UL DQS, a global registrar. To be certified to the standard, companies must implement an information security management system to identify, manage and reduce the range of threats to which information is regularly subjected.

ISO/IEC 27001:2005 is an internationally recognized information security management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The standard encompasses controls spanning multiple areas, including risk management, asset management and control, physical and environmental security, communications and operations management, as well as business continuity management and compliance.

Verizon has more than 50 corporate locations certified as ISO 9001:2008 compliant, as well as a number of additional operations that are ISO 20000-1:2005 and ISO 27001:2005 compliant.
