– Delivers Presbyterian Rust Medical Center next-generation, high-performance capability for electronic medical record transfer, telemedicine, imaging and high-speed data transfer applications
– Multi-year contract for a combination of voice, Internet and data services supports Presbyterian’s 20 plus New Mexico facilities
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – October 18, 2011 – tw telecom (NASDAQ:TWTC, news, filings), a leading provider of managed services, including Business Ethernet, converged and IP VPN solutions for enterprises in New Mexico and throughout the U.S., today announced that Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) has selected it to provide 10 Gigabit Ethernet service to connect its newest, state-of-the-art hospital to its existing network of more than 20 facilities located throughout New Mexico.
“Having a highly reliable, cost-effective communications network is critical to our ability to provide high-quality healthcare services to New Mexicans, and our experience working with tw telecom for the past decade has shown us the quality of their services,” said Ernie Sanchez, manager of IT and Engineering, Presbyterian Healthcare Services. “We selected tw telecom because of its track record of offering highly reliable and cost-effective services, as well as its willingness to go the extra mile for its customers. In our case, for example, that meant tw telecom was willing to expand its fiber backbone to give us the service quality and redundancy we require.”
Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., is PHS’s newest facility, opening October 22nd 2011. It has been designed to offer New Mexicans a full-service, cutting-edge hospital that includes the most advanced medical and technology equipment possible to support a healing environment for patients and their families. As part of the design process, PHS experts spent more than a year researching and evaluating other state-of-the-art hospitals so they could develop an innovative facility that meets patients’ needs today and in the future.
PHS selected tw telecom for the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center because of its ability to deliver dual-entrance capability on a 10 Gbps metro service, offering greater resiliency and reliability. PHS uses tw telecom’s network for a number of applications, including telemedicine to remote parts of the state, quick sharing of large medical image files among doctors at different locations, and securely transmitting electronic medical records among its administration center and healthcare provider locations.
“The overall network we designed supports Presbyterian’s need for any-to-any connectivity in the metro and to its regional centers across New Mexico with a secure, scalable fiber infrastructure,” said Eloy De La O, vice president and general manager for tw telecom’s Albuquerque market.
tw telecom connects more commercial buildings to its fiber network than any other competitive communications provider. It is one of the three leading providers of retail Business Ethernet ports in service in the U.S. tw telecom has its own metro fiber networks and one of the ten most interconnected IP backbones in the world, enabling it to deliver the national reach, robust product portfolio and expert customer care teams to support mission critical enterprise applications and provide the industry’s most sought after customer experience.
