Colt Technology Services, GTS and Broadnet join Equinix’s Carrier Ethernet Exchange (ECEE)
LONDON — October 11, 2011 — Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ:EQIX, news, filings), a global provider of network neutral data centre services, today announced the addition of three new participants to its Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange (ECEE) platform, taking the total number of carriers and cloud service providers on ECEE to 55 at the time of this release.
The addition of service providers Colt Technology Services, GTS Central Europe and Norway-based Broadnet extends the depth and reach of Carrier Ethernet services available from the ECEE. Colt provides extensive coverage across Europe and to the U.S., while GTS strengthens Central and Eastern Europe coverage and Broadnet covers Scandinavia.
By joining the ECEE, Colt, GTS and Broadnet gain access to an entire community of global Ethernet partners. The ECEE’s ‘one-to-many’ interconnection model gives the new members the opportunity to create new revenues by selling Ethernet services and connectivity to other ECEE operator members who want to extend connectivity to mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
More than just an interconnection platform, ECEE provides a new, network-neutral way of working that removes the cost and complexity of facilitating transactions between Layer 2 Ethernet networks. This enables global and local service providers to collaborate easily to build end-to-end Ethernet services on demand and cater to the needs of their enterprise customers.
“With the ever increasing adoption of Ethernet services, the additional interconnection opportunities offered through the ECEE opens up new business opportunities. The Exchange will enable seamless interconnection with Colt’s European information delivery platform and complements the existing E-NNI interconnections with our partners,” said Lutz Blank, vice president, marketing at Colt. “More customers can now benefit from our high quality Carrier Ethernet services in a simple and effective way.”
“ECEE gives Broadnet important competitive differentiation and economies of scale, which allows us to compete on an international stage,” said Jørn M.S. Slåtten, marketing manager of Broadnet. “Having joined ECEE, Broadnet is ideally positioned to capitalise on the fast-growing demand for enterprise-class global Ethernet services.”
“Our decision to join ECEE opens up new markets and allows GTS to work with new partners,” said Artur Ostrowski, senior vice president, head of international services at GTS Central Europe. “ECEE is a high-performance exchange with market momentum behind it. Our participation in ECEE follows certification of compliance of our services with MEF specifications and reflects the company’s commitment to Ethernet. We are the only Central and Eastern European-based operator to attain MEF certification, and we look forward to offering ECEE partner operators our high quality services in Central Europe.”
The Equinix Carrier Ethernet Exchange delivers value to its operator participants by combining large scale Ethernet interconnectivity with a global ecosystem of partners and customers, including 675 operator partners, all securely housed in Equinix’s market-leading International Business Exchange (IBX®) data centres. The ECEE provides scalable connectivity and secure layer 2 global Ethernet reach for its members, and the opportunity for access to new channels of revenue.
“We’re delighted to welcome Colt, GTS Central Europe and Broadnet to the global list of ECEE’s operators,” said Dick Theunissen, chief marketing officer for Equinix in EMEA. “Their participation is a valuable boost that extends the depth and breadth of Equinix’s Global Carrier Ethernet ecosystem. The addition of these three established players underscores ECEE as the preferred choice for operators seeking large-scale Ethernet connectivity at a cost-effective price.”
