Sprint Continues Nationwide Ethernet Access Expansion for Businesses

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), September 07, 2011 – Building upon existing availability of Ethernet access, Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) is extending the service to 65 markets by the end of 2011. Enhanced Ethernet access coverage for Sprint Global MPLS and Dedicated Internet Access provides businesses and wholesale partners with more opportunities to reduce network costs for high-bandwidth locations and simplify the complexity of maintaining multiple types of technologies.

Today, Sprint Ethernet access is offered in 40 markets nationwide and 37 countries globally. Sprint plans to launch new domestic markets and deepen penetration in existing markets by end of year, as well as expand availability globally next year.

As converging technologies and real-time applications continue to drive increasing demand for bandwidth, Sprint has enhanced its service by adding new and dedicated speeds to current aggregated speeds, with ranges of 2 Mbps to 10 Gbps, subject to market availability. Businesses can now select from 18 aggregated speeds and 16 dedicated speeds, choosing the port speeds that best fit their network needs. Aggregated Ethernet access can provide a cost-effective alternative to traditional TDM access, while Dedicated Ethernet access expands easily to meet specific customer bandwidth needs, offering fixed-rate and fractional (burstable) billing.

“Our customers are enjoying the flexibility and simplicity of Ethernet, with Sprint serving as the single point of contact to provide businesses and wholesale partners an end-to-end network solution,” said Monnie McGaffigan, vice president of wireline, international and strategic alliances – Sprint. “Sprint Ethernet access can help lower network and equipment costs, and when backed by our industry-leading, service-level agreements, can provide the assurance businesses demand for connectivity and business continuity.”
