Global Crossing Helps VK Expand Its Network

Russian Social Networking Site Has 150 Million Users

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Sept. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that VK, a leading Russian social networking site, has purchased IP Transit and Wavelength Services to accommodate its rapidly expanding social networking site.

With a recent upgrade to its Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based IP network in the Nordic region of Europe, Global Crossing is providing VK with several 10 Gigabit per second (Gbps) IP Transit ports in Helsinki and Stockholm.  In addition, Global Crossing is providing 10 Gbps Wavelength Services among VK’s sites across Europe and in the U. S.

“We selected Global Crossing for its network reach and high level of customer service,” said Oleg Lyubimov, chief infrastructure officer, VK.  “Tens of millions of people rely on us every day to find and communicate with friends.  Our ability to reach 100 percent of the Internet reliably and securely is of the utmost importance to us.”

“We are delighted to welcome VK as a customer, and appreciate the trust they have placed in us to help facilitate their growth,” said Dag Aanensen, vice president of Sales for Global Crossing EMEA.  “Our team brought VK onboard quickly and seamlessly and I am looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship between VK and Global Crossing.”

Global Crossing IP Transit Service offers international carriers and ISPs upstream Internet connectivity to all worldwide domains at speeds up to 10 Gbps.  Global Crossing services are delivered over its worldwide subsea and terrestrial systems at sustained availability levels of 99.998 percent to meet the capacity demands of today’s data intensive businesses.  Global Crossing has built, owns and operates a global network under a single AS number (3549) and can leverage its Tier 1 IP network to reach 100 percent of the Internet.

Global Crossing’s Wavelength and Ethernet Wavelength services enable network providers to provide fully managed IP and SONET services without having to manage their own dispersed networks, and to gain access to a market where capacity requirements do not justify an infrastructure investment.

Global Crossing Wavelength Service is offered at speeds up to 40 Gbps.  Wavelengths are part of Global Crossing’s complete wide area network and transport solutions portfolio, which also includes Private Lines, EtherSphere™, Ethernet Wide Area Network (WAN) transport and IP Virtual Private Network WAN services.
