NTT America Announces 500G Milestone for NTT Communications’ Tier-1 Network

Transpacific network remains strong despite Japanese earthquake

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)– NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, today announced that the NTT Communications Global IP Network has reached 500 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of capacity on its transpacific network. Reaching 500 Gbps is just the latest milestone in the exponential growth of the NTT Communications transpacific network, which enables NTT America to continue meet the increasing demands of its customers.

After reaching 400 Gbps of capacity in late 2010, the growth of NTT Communications’ transpacific network suffered setbacks as a result of the Japanese earthquake in March 2011. However, the network was able to quickly rebound as a result of concerted and dedicated efforts from the company’s skilled engineers. Today, with 500 Gbps of capacity, the transpacific network is enabling NTT America to rapidly deliver data in a fast, low-latency manner.

“The Internet is without a doubt critical infrastructure for our customers today, and because of this, we’re constantly working provide the best service possible,” said Brent Duncan, vice president of sales and marketing for NTT America. “The NTT Communications network delivers seamless, worldwide reach to ensure our customers are able to remain competitive on a global scale.”

As demand grows for content and services available via the Internet, NTT America – via the NTT Communications network – supports its customers by shaping IP transit bandwidth, delivered over both Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4) and the next generation Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6). The growth of NTT Communications transpacific network will benefit customers connecting through Point of Presence (PoP) locations on its Global IP Network backbone in the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific, providing them a significant competitive advantage.

NTT America directly connects telecommunications companies, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) and enterprises to major markets around the world via NTT Communications’ Tier-1 IP Backbone Network. The company provides flexible and fast dedicated access to the global Internet, one of the most aggressive Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in the industry and more than 1 Tbps of peering capacity globally.
