NTELOS Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ:NTLS, news, filings), a leading provider of wireless and wireline communications services (branded as NTELOS) in seven Mid-Atlantic states, today announced that Brian J. O’Neil has been appointed as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of the Company’s wireless business, effective upon the spin-off of the Company’s wireline business into an independent, publicly traded company. Mary McDermott, NTELOS’s current Senior Vice President, Legal and Regulatory Affairs will assume that role for Lumos Networks Corp., the post spin-off wireline company.
Mr. O’Neil joins NTELOS with over twenty-five years of legal experience in private and corporate practice where his legal career has focused on securities, corporate governance, finance, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, regulatory and general corporate matters.

Prior to joining NTELOS, Mr. O’Neil was the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of iPCS, Inc., a publicly-traded wireless telecommunications company acquired by Sprint Nextel Corporation in late 2009. Prior to his tenure at iPCS, Mr. O’Neil worked in the office of the general counsel at Accenture Ltd (now Accenture plc), a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company from August 2001 to August 2008. From 1994 until 2001, Mr. O’Neil was a partner in the corporate and securities practice at the law firm of Schwartz Cooper Chartered (now Dykema) in Chicago, Illinois, and from 1986 until 1994, he practiced in the corporate finance group at the law firm of Chapman and Cutler LLP in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. O’Neil received his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, California and his undergraduate degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
