Infinera Upgrades ATN With Leading Ethernet Capabilities
SUNNYVALE, CA, Jul 27, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) —
Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN, news, filings) announced today that LightBound LLC (LightBound), an Indianapolis based provider of Internet, data center, voice over IP, and other technology-based services, has selected an ATN network for its latest network build in the State of Indiana. LightBound chose an Infinera ATN network for the flexibility, ease of use, and scalability of the solution.
LightBound is a rapidly growing regional provider focused on serving the needs of educational institutions, government entities, sports franchises and healthcare institutions, throughout the region. LightBound’s latest network upgrade extends its footprint by providing connectivity to five Indiana cities including Indianapolis and Bloomington, stretching over more than 200 miles of fiber.
By deploying an Infinera ATN network for the optical transport infrastructure, LightBound is able to offer more capacity more cost-effectively than ever before. LightBound also benefits from a wide range of services supported by the Infinera ATN including Ethernet, SAN, SONET/SDH, OTN, video services, multiservice aggregation to 10Gb/s wavelengths and fully automated optical power management.
“Infinera is an ideal fit for our business because the ATN allows us to expand our network efficiently by choosing features in this solution that are relevant to our needs — from 40ch DWDM scalability to flexible multiservice 10Gb/s muxponders and a network management system that’s easy to use,” said Matt Addison, LightBound Senior Networking Engineer.
LightBound will deploy ATN Release 3.0 into their network. Recently available, this release from Infinera adds Ethernet Add Drop Multiplexing (ADM) on blade functionality and extended regional reach which are features particularly relevant to regional providers. The new features, added to existing scalable WDM transport with multi-service aggregation, make the ATN the ideal optical platform for a range of regional and metro Ethernet and multiservice networks.
“We are pleased to support LightBound in building their own network and expanding broadband options for consumers and enterprise services for businesses and government customers,” said Infinera CEO Tom Fallon. “With the latest upgrades to our ATN platform, we are confident that LightBound will continue to stay at the cutting edge of the industry and benefit from the speed and simplicity of our solutions.”
