Contract further demonstrates Intellifiber’s ability to provide innovative customized solutions into government agencies
HERNDON, Va. – June 29, 2011
Intellifiber Networks, a subsidiary of PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS: PAET), which serves the growing network needs of government enterprises and carrier customers, announced today that it has been awarded a three-year contract by the Defense Information System Agency (DISA) to provide the Defense Enterprise Computing Center (DECC), located at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg Pa., with Intellifiber’s leading edge fiber infrastructure.
Intellifiber is part of PAETEC’s 36,000 route-mile fiber infrastructure trusted by government entities, carriers, and enterprise organizations nationally. The specific DECC solution provides the DECC high-availability fiber services including construction of dual and diverse fiber access laterals from the DECC into Intellifiber’s backbone in Pennsylvania, and then utilizing diverse DWDM to other DISA core node sides in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Intellifiber’s services provide DISA with a secure, highly available platform for their data centers so that the agency’s information will be safe and continually accessible even if a portion of the network is disrupted.
“DoD centers, like the DECC, cannot tolerate any downtime and require secure and reliable high-speed access to their vital data,” said Mike Magliato, Intellifiber vice president of government markets. “This contract is a great example of how our diverse network service capabilities can meet the demanding needs of government agencies.”
The contract award is a key component of the Department of Defense’s initiative to implement end-to-end diverse networks for critical infrastructure sites. DECC is a fee-for-service organization of the DISA Computing Services Directorate (CSD) that provides world-class processing capability, systems management, communications, and data storage in a reliable, secure environment in support of Department of Defense services, agencies, and combatant commands.
“With the increasing trend toward extremely fault-tolerant, scalable cloud solutions, our fiber services continue to be in growing demand in the government sector,” said Clint Heiden, president of PAETEC Fiber Services. “With over 36,000 fiber route-miles available, we are able to offer diverse solutions for agencies of all sizes and geographic footprints.”
Since 2005, Intellifiber has been serving governmental entities, such as the Department of Defense and Defense Information Systems Agency, FAA, Department of Treasury, Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy, U.S. Courts, and the Department of Homeland Security. In 2010, Intellifiber announced the activation of the 500th high capacity circuit delivered to the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Circuit speeds for the DoD range from DS-3 to 10 Gbps wavelengths, covering 14 states and more than 150 locations.
