Tool provides software distribution customers with easy, intelligent global file delivery
SANTA MONICA, CA – June 9, 2011 – EdgeCast Networks, the world’s fastest and most reliable content delivery network (CDN), today announced general availability of its Download Manager, a cross-platform, client-installable file distribution product.
The customizable product, which is installed by end users to manage file downloads, provides a hassle-free file transfer experience including pause, resume, and auto-recovery functionality for file updates, purchased software, and other software packages.
EdgeCast Download Manager can be configured to suit a wide variety of distributor and end user needs. The brandable, highly customizable XML/CSS interface lets customers include interaction, advertising, and other components using Adobe Flash, HTML5, JavaScript, or other client-side presentation formats.
The product also offers rich reporting and analytics while protecting end users’ personal privacy by collecting no personally identifiable information. Its reporting capabilities give companies the ability to integrate download metrics and delivery receipts into existing e-commerce and fulfillment systems.
“Our software distribution customers include producers of desktop games and antivirus software, as well as companies selling and delivering software online. The combination of Download Manager with the EdgeCast CDN brings customers a new level of end-to-end control of the user experience and of the quality and performance of large digital packages that are likely to take significant amounts of time to deliver.
The product is based on Adobe’s highly-secure cross-platform AIR framework and can be installed in a single click. Multiple installs are not necessary; once it is installed on a system, it can be invoked in the future by any EdgeCast customer.
