Colt deepens its european presence in Italy

Major Italian cities connected to Colt’s high capacity long distance network

Colt, Europe’s leading information delivery platform, today announced that it has expanded its long distance fibre network into additional cities in Italy. Colt’s high capacity network has been extended to Bologna, Genoa and Parma, to complement its existing connected cities, Rome, Milan and Turin. This investment broadens the availability of Colt’s integrated network and computing solutions for enterprises, carriers and channel partners.

The network extension comprises over 1,600km of new fibre cable and the latest innovation from Colt’s technology partner. It provides an efficient platform for high bandwidth services and backbone solutions. Customers now benefit from service improvements including reduced latency and improved resilience in these geographies for connectivity up to 10Gbps.

“This is a significant investment for Colt and shows our commitment to the Italian market and to the continued expansion of our information delivery platform’s capabilities throughout Europe,” said François Eloy, Executive Vice President, Colt Communication Services. “It enables us to meet the strong customer demand for national and international high speed connectivity. Colt is committed to help organisations run smarter in Europe and we have built the Italian long distance network with one eye on the future so that upgrades will be faster and simpler to perform.”

Colt’s network has been designed to meet the needs of its customers, including carriers and the financial and media/broadcast enterprise segments, where low latency and high bandwidth transport is vital. It is ready to support new technical solutions driven by customer demand, including IPv6 and 100Gbps Ethernet, a trial for which was successfully completed in 2010. The network is underpinned by robust systems and processes to enable proactive monitoring and rapid provisioning of services supported by an end-to-end Service Level Agreement.

Colt’s information delivery platform combines expertise, IT managed Infrastructure and Services, and a 35,000km, high-performance 21-country network. This Italian network expansion further demonstrates Colt’s continued investment and follows the introduction of market leading low latency routes and the recent completion of Colt’s 39th metropolitan area network, in Luxembourg.
