By making the most of its resources, the company is also aiming to offer communication solutions and services to organisations supporting people with special needs, as well as working with experts to understand how people’s lives can be enhanced and enabling colleagues to build meaningful partnerships with relevant organisations.

“This is a very special day for us and I’m proud to see the introduction of the Cable&Wireless Worldwide Foundation,” says John Pluthero, Cable&Wireless Worldwide Chairman and Trustee of the Foundation. “Starting the Foundation is a formal way to harness the fantastic public spirit across our business. It’s a cohesive and global approach that provides the platform to focus our efforts, expertise and funding to make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Notes to Editors:

The Cable&Wireless Worldwide Foundation is looking for long-term opportunities to collaborate with not-for-profit organisations and individuals by providing technical expertise, colleagues’ time and skills, funding and communication solutions to help develop their services. Colleague engagement is critical to C&W Worldwide’s community programme and we aim to focus on supporting organisation with which our colleagues can be involved.

Applications for funding must be made via www.cw.com/foundation between 14th June 2011 and 1st August 2011 and will be acknowledged via email within 14 days of receipt. If unsuccessful, applications can be made again three years from the initial date.

The Cable&Wireless Worldwide Foundation is clear on its focus to use communications as the core of its community programmes. It also feels long term value is essential for all parties so asks that the following are considered before completing the application process:

  • Are there opportunities for colleagues to be involved?
  • Can C&W Worldwide offer its technical expertise?
  • Will you be able to take advantage of our communications solutions?
  • Does the programme fit our local, national or international footprint?
  • Is your request relevant to the Foundation objectives to focus on communications support?
  • Is there scope for the relationship to grow?
  • Can both organisations measure and report on the benefits of any programme?
  • Will the partnership provide opportunities to communicate the “story”, both internally and externally?
