WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 8, 2011 – AboveNet, Inc. (NYSE:ABVT, news, filings), a leading provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions, today announced that it will soon be connected to the Montgomery Westland Data Center known as The Bunker.  AboveNet will be providing the data center’s customers with access to its private, optical network and extensive fiber footprint for high bandwidth connectivity from the facility in Montgomery to business hubs in Houston and the top metro markets in the U.S. and Europe.

The Montgomery Westland Data Center is one of the most secure data center storage environments in the United States. Located 45 miles north of the Houston Central Business District, the facility is a former nuclear fallout shelter housed 60 feet underground and includes 38,000 square feet of Tier III space.

AboveNet has designed a network that has dual paths and diverse, low-latency routes from the Westland Bunker to top business centers including Houston, Dallas, Austin and the remaining AboveNet markets.

“Businesses continue to move mission-critical applications to data centers to handle data intensive applications such as multimedia transfers, data replication and disaster recovery,” said Jymme Gomez, chief executive officer, Westland Bunker. “We are pleased to connect to AboveNet’s high performance network to offer the bandwidth services and routes to meet the Westland Bunker customers’ communications needs.”

AboveNet provides a complete portfolio of metro Ethernet, WDM, Long Haul and IP transit services. Its infrastructure includes more than 2.3 million fiber miles, an intercity network spanning approximately 12,000 route miles and a global Tier 1 IP backbone.

“At AboveNet, we focus exclusively on the needs of the high bandwidth customer, so our network is specifically engineered to deliver fast, dedicated, secure connectivity to critical business locations,” said Rajiv Datta, chief operating officer at AboveNet. “The Bunker, whose enterprise and carrier customers are concerned with security and low latency, is a key data center to connect to our network.
