XO Communications to Participate in World IPv6 Day

HERNDON, VA – May 24, 2011– XO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) today announced that it will participate in the June 8, 2011 World IPv6 Day, a worldwide testing of IPv6 to demonstrate its readiness to ensure successful transition from the IPv4 environment.

World IPv6 Day is a 24-hour global “test drive” of IPv6 organized and sponsored by The Internet Society and major content providers such as Google, Facebook and Yahoo! in which major web companies, Internet Service Providers, enterprises and equipment vendors will work together to “turn on” IPv6 for 24 hours starting at 00:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on June 8, 2011. Participants will enable IPv6 on their main web sites during this time, providing their web content over IPv6 and testing connections to isolate any possible issues that may affect users in an IPv6 environment.

To demonstrate its readiness, XO Communications has made its web site (www.xo.com) accessible through IPv6 networks. On World IPv6 Day, XO Communications will advertise both an IPv4 and IPv6 address in the DNS for http://www.xo.com for 24 hours along with other World IPV6 Day participants. This will allow devices that have IPv6 connectivity to use it without requiring the user to type a special address, while those that do not have IPv6 will continue to reach the XO Communications web site as they always have over IPv4.

“We’re very excited to participate in World IPv6 Day as IPv6 is a major step forward for the continued, explosive growth of the Internet,” said Randy Nicklas, chief technology officer at XO Communications. “Every Internet connected device must have its own unique IP address in order to connect and communicate with the world at large, and IPv6 will provide four billion times the capacity of addresses that are available with IPv4. As IPv6 implementations grow, XO Communications stands ready to help our customers develop and implement their IPv6 strategies.”
