Sprint Supports Impacted Customers Following Tornado Outbreak in Alabama

Sprint service and repair van stationed in Pleasant Grove; Sprint ERT assisting first responders; Sprint Foundation Donates $100,000 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund

WHAT: Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) and Next Star Communication are deploying a service and repair van to Pleasant Grove, Ala. to assist customers impacted by the devastating tornadoes. At the Sprint service and repair van, residents will be able to call friends and family, access the Internet, charge batteries, triage their devices and replace and repair as needed, order replacement phones and initiate insurance claims.
The Sprint Emergency Response Team (ERT) has deployed Cell Sites on Wheels (COWs) and Satellite Cell on Light Trucks (SatCOLTS) to provide immediate restoration of service and help facilitate wireless and IP communications among disaster relief and emergency response agencies.
Currently, the Sprint ERT is providing wireless and IP service, devices and support to numerous public safety officials and medical personnel, including the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Wayne, Ala., Huntsville Hospital and Trauma Center in Huntsville, Ala. and the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency.
Sprint ERT maintains a 24-hour hotline, 365 days a year, to rapidly address client needs and, during times of state- and federally declared national disasters, provides 25 mobile devices and wireless service free of charge for 14 days to state and local agencies. Additionally, the interested parties can utilize the Sprint ERT Go-Kit TM, which provides first responders immediate access to mobile communications tools for emergencies, including fully charged Sprint and Nextel Direct Connect phones and Sprint Mobile Broadband devices.
The Sprint Foundation also donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Customers also can text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross. Sprint is waiving standard text-messaging fees for American Red Cross mobile donations from now until June 30, 2011.
