New York, NY May 18, 2011 – KDDI America, the US division of KDDI CORPORATION, a Global Fortune 500 company and worldwide leader in international telecommunications services, today announced the upgrade of KDDI Group’s and Rostelecom’s existing cable route between Asia and Europe to enable it to provide 10G wavelength services over the shortest possible route between the two continents.
The Russian National carrier Rostelecom and KDDI Corporation (KDDI) signed the Agreement for upgrade and modification of the Russia-Japan Cable Network (RJCN) and Transit Europe-Asia (TEA) cable on April 18th in Beijing, China. The project includes the upgrade and modernization of RJCN up to 640Gbps with respective capacity on Rostelecom’s and KDDI’s backbone and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2012.
Director of Product development, KDDI America, Nobutsugu Ogata states this about the recent agreement between Rostelecom and KDDI. “The combined investment from KDDI and Rostelecom in this project is substantial, more than $60million, reflecting the importance of this route through Russia. Traffic between Japan and Europe is expected to grow significantly from 2012 to 2014, fueling the need for cost-effective 10Gbps transparent wavelengths. Large corporations and Internet Service Providers will also be interested in using our enhanced capabilities as a back-door route to bring traffic back to the United States.”
