New and Enhanced Edge and Branch Routers Complement QFabric’sTM Quantum Leap in Data Center Performance with Pay-As-You-Grow Scalability for the Enterprise
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 2, 2011 — Juniper Networks (NASDAQ:JNPR, news, filings) today introduced its Universal WAN solution, enabling new levels of business agility with a flexible and scalable enterprise and branch routing portfolio optimized to support rapidly growing mobile, video and cloud computing applications. Juniper Networks® Universal WAN complements the quantum leap in data center performance, operating cost and business agility driven by Juniper’s new QFabric architecture with exponential improvements in the WAN, including data center-to-data center connectivity.
With its Universal WAN solution, Juniper delivers the industry’s highest performance and most scalable routing offering specifically designed to support distributed enterprises that run business-critical applications across varied locations, including data centers, campuses and branches. Juniper Networks Universal WAN is composed of new additions to the MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routing portfolio, including the compact MX5, MX10 and MX40 as well as configuration updates to the SRX Series Services Gateways. The complete solution is powered by Junos®, a single, proven operating system with consistent update releases that further increase manageability, operational simplicity and resiliency.
“Low latency and high throughput are critical to the sophisticated technology that allows OpenX customers to maximize their online advertising revenue,” said Michael Todd, head of engineering, systems, for OpenX, the world’s leading independent provider of digital advertising technology. “The MX Series and the Junos operating system have given us the ability to rapidly scale our business. The compact versions of the MX Series will give us the two rack unit form factor, power consumption and economy to allow us to further expand our international footprint.”
Flexible Interfaces for Pay-As-You Grow Investment Protection
With the new additions, the MX Series delivers the industry’s broadest bandwidth and throughput scalability, ranging from 20 Gigabits per second in the MX5 up to 2.6 Terabits per second in the MX960. The newest additions to the MX Series can also scale up to the full functionality of an MX80 with a software license upgrade. The MX80 is the industry’s most powerful compact edge router and was recognized as Best in Show at Interop Tokyo 2010 and as Light Reading’s 2010 Best New Telecom Product.
The new MX Series routers also support a wide range of interfaces, from DS3 to 10 Gigabit Ethernet that can flexibly scale to match the changing requirements of the network. The new additions also include the first non-Ethernet modular line cards that can be deployed across the entire MX Series family, providing continued investment protection. The new line cards include two clear channel and channelized line cards at OC3, OC12 and OC48 rates with command line configurability in a single module for maximum investment protection.
“Juniper Networks has a proven track record of innovation based on what its customers require to cost-effectively build, manage and scale their networks, and the new Universal WAN solution is a good example of that focus,” said Rohit Mehra, director, enterprise communications infrastructure at IDC. “Network administrators can leverage the flexible configuration of the new WAN platforms to improve network efficiencies while meeting the evolving requirements of the new virtual, social and mobile enterprise.”
Simplicity, Flexibility and Scalability for Complete Cloud Readiness in 10 Minutes
Juniper’s newly enhanced SRX100, SRX650 and SRX200 line of Services Gateways integrate branch routing capabilities and security simultaneously and support up to five times the routing capacity of competing solutions. With traditional, broadband and wireless interfaces tailored to smaller sites and an emphasis on application-level networking and security services, the SRX Series for the branch completes the Juniper Networks Universal WAN solution.
Both the MX Series and SRX Series feature Junos Space Service Now to simplify and automate technical support by eliminating most manual support operations. Both routers also feature Juniper Networks J-Web, a Web-based application that enables seamless connectivity and management of the branch devices and further reduces onsite support requirements. The combined Junos software tools, along with a comprehensive library of Day One how-to books, enable the complete establishment of branch connectivity in less than 10 minutes.
“Juniper’s Universal WAN was built to improve the economics of enterprise routing with an easy-to-deploy solution that has the flexibility to keep pace with evolving applications and traffic patterns,” said Mike Marcellin, vice president of marketing and business strategy, Platform Systems Group at Juniper Networks. “Network managers now have a solution that meets the performance needs of the network today while building in the scalability they need to be ready for tomorrow’s WAN traffic requirements.”
The full Universal WAN solution is available for orders today with shipments beginning in Q3 2011. The MX80, MX240, MX480, MX960 and SRX Series are currently available.
