Wholesale Fiber Operator Deploys Cyan’s CyPortal to Provide Historical and Real-Time SLA Assurance and Transparency for Its Carrier Ethernet Services
PETALUMA, CA–(Marketwire – May 9, 2011) – Cyan today announced CyPortal, an innovative portal service, providing performance monitoring and service level agreement (SLA) verification with real-time reporting and visibility of packet services in multi-vendor environments. North Carolina-based DukeNet Communications uses the cloud-based CyPortal to provide historic and real-time SLA performance monitoring tools for its operations personnel and, more importantly, its own customers employing key services such as wireless backhaul. CyPortal further expands Cyan’s industry-leading software and software as a service (SaaS) capabilities and is a key component of Cyan’s Service Level Aware Network(SM) (SLAN) framework.

Cyan’s CyPortal is a secure web portal providing visibility into customer-specific services displayed in a “virtual network format.” CyPortal has been designed as a platform capable of supporting a broad range of services and capabilities. The currently available CyPortal feature set delivers detailed SLA performance reporting for key Ethernet quality parameters such as availability, delay, jitter, throughput and packet loss. Service providers can make these portals available to their external and internal customers and their own planning and operations groups, increasing service visibility and providing service differentiation leading to expanded market share and increased revenues.
CyPortal works in conjunction with Cyan’s Z-Series packet optical transport platforms and third-party products. The currently supported CyPortal performance verification services are compatible with products complying with the ITU-T Y.1731 Ethernet service OAM (operations, administration and management) standard. Through CyAlliance, Cyan’s interoperability assurance program, products from Accedian Networks and Overture Networks have been certified to work with CyPortal. Cyan is currently expanding this certification ecosystem to include a broad range of standards-compliant products, giving service providers the ability to provide a common SLA portal service to their customers in multi-vendor networks.
DukeNet Communications, headquartered in Charlotte, utilizes CyPortal for monitoring wireless backhaul services using Overture Networks Ethernet Network Interface Devices (NIDs). With over 4,000 such devices deployed throughout the southeastern US, CyPortal services provide DukeNet with historic and real-time SLA reporting of end-to-end services across the network.
“As a leading provider of wireless backhaul solutions in the southeastern US, DukeNet continuously strives to deliver superior services and support for our customers,” said Tony Cockerham, senior vice president, Sales and Business Development for DukeNet Communications. “Cyan’s CyPortal is a powerful new tool that furthers our commitment to SLAs. This new level of network visibility for our customers significantly enhances our packet service offerings.”
Cyan’s CyPortal is the latest offering in Cyan’s rapidly expanding Cy360 software and SaaS portfolio. The Cy360 suite consists of CyPlan for multi-layer network design and planning, CyMS for multi-layer network management, and now CyPortal for multi-layer, service level verification. Cy360 software systems work in concert with Cyan’s Z-Series platforms to enable Service Level Aware Networks, which provide greater visibility, performance and control while reducing capital and operational expenses and increasing revenue generation.
“CyPortal is a direct response to customer requests for greater service performance visibility in multi-vendor environments,” said Richard Lopez, director of product line management, Cyan. “We are excited to see DukeNet realize these benefits across its entire network.”
About CyPortal
CyPortal is another industry first from Cyan, providing real-time and historical SLA performance visibility and reporting of multi-vendor solutions, through easy to use web portals. As CyPortal users log-in, they are presented with customer-relevant views of specific services displayed in a Google Maps format showing the services of interest. SLA compliance or threshold crossing alerts are clearly illustrated using real-time color coded connections status, as well as tabular and graphical displays to convey key parameters in easy to understand formats.
CyPortal software is hosted in the Amazon-cloud, providing a secure, yet highly scalable and cost-effective software as a services (SaaS) implementation. CyPortal software running in the cloud rolls up historical and real-time performance data which is sourced directly from monitored Y.1731 enabled devices, CyMS, third-party EMS’s or a Cyan CyCollect collection appliance.
CyPortal works in conjunction with Cyan’s Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms as well as third-party products from other vendors supporting Y.1731 SLA OAM. CyPortal SLA reporting parameters will extend to include services operating at other layers — enabling a true multi-layer SLA portal of high value to service providers and their wholesale and retail customers. Over time, CyPortal will extend beyond outbound service reporting, supporting a broader range of service and customer management functions.
