AT&T Government Solutions Announces Telework Solutions for Federal Agencies

AT&T To Provide Comprehensive Telework Solutions to Federal Agencies

Oakton, Virginia, May 04, 2011

AT&T Government Solutions*, together with Oracle and Avaya, announced the introduction of integrated and customizable telework technology solutions for federal agencies seeking to develop and expand telework options for their employees.

AT&T’s telework solutions include a wide range of industry-leading technologies and support capabilities, which include: broadband network access, security services, cloud computing solutions, mobility services and devices, equipment, software, and applications, such as web-based conferencing and voice-over-IP (VoIP) services. To support federal agencies in planning, implementing, and managing their growing base of teleworkers, the offering includes consulting services, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software for online telework enablement, and an application platform for developing management reports and metrics that identify efficiency gains and cost-savings resulting from telework.

The Obama administration and Congress have identified teleworking as a key strategy in helping improve and modernize the federal workplace, allowing agencies to recruit and retain employees, while reducing operating expenses and the federal government’s carbon footprint. Last year, Congress passed the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010, granting federal employees eligibility to telework and requiring federal agencies to establish telework policies, measures, and goals. President Obama signed the bill into law last December. By June 9, the Office of Personnel Management will notify each federal employee of his or her telework status.

“As the federal workplace evolves and moves toward teleworking, agencies will need technology solutions that are available on-demand and provide the reliability and security to maintain the critical continuity of the federal government,” said Thomas Harvey, Senior Vice President, AT&T Government Solutions. “Our telework solutions incorporate cloud computing services, such as AT&T Synaptic Storage and software as service, which provide a cost-effective means of supporting telework on-demand for continuity of operations. With AT&T’s telework solutions, federal agencies of all sizes have ability to deliver flexible and mobile workplace solutions to a wide range of federal employees. AT&T, Avaya, and Oracle are committed to working with federal agencies and employees to realize the enormous potential of teleworking.”

This suite of telework technologies can be customized to address the unique and evolving federal workplace needs and requirements for the three major telework user categories: on-demand users for disaster recovery and continuity of operations; full-time or frequent-use teleworkers; and part-time or occasional-use teleworkers.

“Oracle is pleased to be working with AT&T and Avaya to deliver integrated telework technology solutions, using Oracle’s complete applications to disk offerings, as part of the U.S. federal government’s strategic initiative,” said Edward Screven, Oracle’s Chief Corporate Architect. “With Oracle’s desktop virtualization portfolio, including Oracle’s Sun Ray thin client devices, these solutions enable data and applications to be centralized on data center servers rather than being distributed on laptops and PCs, allowing access to be more cost-effective, eco-friendly and secure. This separation of data and applications from the desktop device enables government IT departments to deliver secure teleworking solutions easily and with dramatically reduced overhead.”

“Avaya and AT&T’s telework solutions do more than let government employees work from home and avoid some of the worst traffic in the nation,” said Chris Formant, Senior Vice President & President, Avaya Government Solutions. “They give federal agencies and workers the remote communication and collaboration tools they need during emergencies like last year’s record-breaking snowstorm. Avaya’s technologies provide unified desktop, mobile and Web-based telephony, conferencing and messaging capabilities that help government keep services running when employees cannot or should not come into the office.”

In addition to telework solutions, AT&T is helping the federal government implement innovative technology solutions to improve productivity and provide tools to allow agencies to reduce operational costs. In October, AT&T announced an $18 million task order to implement the AT&T Telepresence SolutionSM, for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). AT&T will deploy 15 Telepresence rooms at GSA office locations across the United States. The rooms, providing high-definition video and audio, will be available for use by the GSA and other federal agencies.

AT&T plans to introduce the suite of telework solutions under the GSA Networx contracts.
