COPENHAGEN 28 April 2011 – INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE:INXN, news), a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announced that it has signed an agreement with the Danish Internet Exchange (DIX) to establish DIX’s second national Internet Exchange at Interxion’s data centre in Copenhagen.
Since 1994, the DIX at DTU (Technical University of Denmark), Lyngby has been Denmark’s only official hub for the exchange of Internet traffic. Therefore, the agreement between DIX and Interxion means that both existing and future members of the DIX now have an alternative point of presence at Interxion’s data centre in Ballerup. The DIX facility is operated by UNI-C, which is a government agency working under the Ministry of Education.
“We have always emphasised that the Danish internet should not have a 100% dependence on a single deployment of the DIX infrastructure. For that reason, we require that the DIX users also have transit connections to ensure high availability. We are now happy to have established redundancy with our new DIX infrastructure presence at Interxion Copenhagen,” comments Director of Research and Society Division Martin Bech, Uni-C.
“With cloud services, streaming media, smartphones and the possibilities with IPv6, we expect continued strong growth in Internet traffic. Therefore, we expect that our agreement with Interxion will increase the number of the current 50 DIX members and simultaneously boost the growth of DIX data traffic in general. The more traffic that is peered at the exchange, the greater the benefits for its members,” concludes Martin Bech.

Our agreement with DIX means that we now create a unique environment for these customers, who will now have more rapid, direct and economical Internet connections for their solutions. DIX is the largest Danish Internet Exchange. It was established in 1994 with the objective to promote the use of data communication through the exchange of data traffic between Danish ISPs.
