Iowa to become a major hub in the company’s strategy to support its national fiber infrastructure, small business division, and customer orders in the Central and West regions

PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS: PAET), a Fortune 1000 company that provides advanced communication solutions to businesses nationwide, broke ground today on a new office facility in Hiawatha, Iowa. The building, which will be located at 1450 Center Point Road, will house many key business functions, including support for its new Small Business Division, order provisioning for new customers in the company’s Central and West regions, and Customer Care.
Hiawatha will act as the Service Delivery portal for the Central and West United States, overseeing more than 11,000 PAETEC orders each month. It has also been designated as one of two national hubs to support the company’s newly formed Small Business Division, with the other located in Richmond, Va. An existing Hiawatha facility will continue to house the company’s new National Monitoring Center for its 37,000 miles of fiber infrastructure.
“For many years, we’ve recognized and appreciated the depth of telecommunications knowledge here in Cedar Rapids,” said PAETEC’s President of Central Region Jeff Howe. “Building our own site here demonstrates our long term commitment to the area, and we look forward to continuing to grow with this region.”
PAETEC acquired Cedar Rapids-based McLeodUSA in 2008. There are 460 PAETEC employees working in the greater Cedar Rapids area, currently employed within two buildings at 1 Martha’s Way in Hiawatha. Of the two, one will be vacated as employees move to the new facility. The second building, which is under lease for the next seven years, will serve as PAETEC’s national fiber Network Management Center.
Hiawatha also is home to many corporate departments including Information Technology, Product Management and Development, Revenue Assurance, Public Policy & Regulatory, Customer Care, along with several others. In addition, the Hiawatha facility will serve as the primary sales hub for Iowa, with several members of PAETEC’s Iowa sales leadership team operating from this site.
The new building is 40,000 square feet and includes 300 workstations, 21 offices, a state-of-the-art training area, and multiple conference and meeting rooms. The facility will utilize PAETEC fiber and will have an emergency generator for uninterruptible power supply backup. The targeted move date is December 2011.
