NTT Com Asia Achieves 10% Improvement In Energy Efficiency For Hong Kong Data Centre

Green Initiatives Recognized with “Best Green ICT Silver Award”

(Hong Kong – 13 April 2011) NTT Com Asia Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation, today announced that, over the past two years, its Tier III+ NTT Communications Hong Kong Data Centre has achieved a 10% improvement in energy efficiency. This remarkable accomplishment is a result of the company’s Green initiatives which incorporate the utilization of energy efficient systems, equipment and the development of green practices that is dedicated to the enhancement of data centre operations.

“Given the success of NTT Group’s ‘The Green Vision 2020’ initiatives, we aim to achieve a further 10% energy reduction within the year,” said Mr. Taylor Man, Executive Vice President, New Business Division at NTT Com Asia. “NTT Com Asia is proud of our achievements in the area of Green and energy efficiency, especially of the results we have achieved at our data centre which also plays a critical part in our ability to offer outstanding cloud and network services to our customers. Our initiatives are closely in-line with the goals put forth by the Hong Kong government’s Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee – strengthening Hong Kong as a strategic location for data centres in the Asia Pacific region.”

As recognition for its Green initiatives, NTT Com Asia has been awarded the “Best Green ICT Silver Award” at the internationally recognized Hong Kong ICT Awards 2011. Winning in the “Adoption Large-Scale Enterprises” category, NTT Com Asia is being recognized for its Green-based management approach, vision and results achieved as well as Green technology development and incubating research best practices.

The Best Green ICT Award aims to promote and commend outstanding achievements in innovative technology and applications as well as encouraging practitioners to further develop innovative and creative ICT solutions for a better life. The Hong Kong ICT Award is supported by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The Best Green ICT Award is organized by the Green ICT Consortium and co-organized by the Communications Association of Hong Kong.

As one of the pioneers in the industry to adopt a Green focused agenda, NTT Com Asia’s Green initiatives aim to achieve maximum efficiency throughout its facilities. NTT’s Green management philosophy also plays a critical role by setting clear, Green oriented objectives and putting in place measurements to ensure results. In an effort to make continuous improvements, independent consultants and academia are also involved in a review process where progress is evaluated.
