HERE COMES MORE BROADBAND FROM FAIRPOINT COMMUNICATIONS

Recent Expansion Effort Brings Broadband to More Than 5,500 Households and Businesses in Waldo, Knox and Lincoln Counties

PORTLAND, Maine (April 28, 2011) – More Mainers can quickly e-mail photos, download music and surf the Internet now that FairPoint Communications has expanded broadband service to an additional 5,500 homes and businesses in Waldo, Knox and Lincoln counties. FairPoint high-speed Internet is available for the first time to eligible customers in many communities.

Since April 2008, FairPoint has invested more than $152 million in the communications infrastructure and technology to bring broadband to northern New England, including building over 1,500 miles of new fiber across the region. FairPoint’s new fiber-based, high-capacity network – called VantagePoint(SM) – offers customers a better, faster way to communicate.

“Broadband access opens doors to the world for the residents and businesses in Maine and is fundamental to the state’s future economic growth,” said Mike Reed, FairPoint’s Maine state president. “Our employees have been working diligently to build more broadband across the state. We are pleased to announce the availability of high-speed Internet for these residents in these three counties.”

The expansion was part of FairPoint’s recent successful effort that increased broadband access to approximately 83 percent of its service areas in Maine. FairPoint has invested more than $39 million in Maine which has increased broadband availability from approximately 68 percent in 2008 to the current 83 percent availability.

The new high-speed connection areas include portions of the following communities:

  • Waldo County – Northport; Belfast; Swanville; Winterport; Islesboro; Lincolnville and Burnham.
  • Knox County – Owls Head; South Thomaston; Camden; Tenant’s Harbor; Warren/Thomaston; Cushing and Rockport.
  • Lincoln County – Waldoboro; Nobleboro; Friendship; Boothbay Harbor and Dresden.
