United Kingdom Ministry of Justice Selects Savvis for GBP 14m Infrastructure-as-a-Service Contract

LONDON, March 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Savvis, Inc. (NASDAQ: SVVS), a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, will provide hosted operations and services to the United Kingdom Ministry of Justice (MoJ) as part of a five-year, 14 million pound agreement.

Savvis will provide the MoJ with access to its Government Wide Service (GWS), an Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform recently made available to all government departments and third-party suppliers in the U.K.  GWS provides a solution for government agencies looking toward a “G-Cloud” model of hosted, reduced-cost IT operations and services. The platform supports the MoJ’s shared services programme, which is expected to deliver annual savings of 28 million pounds per year by 2014.

The MoJ will use the secure platform for its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which is being designed by Steria and implemented by Accenture. The ERP system will deliver transactional and professional services to more than 80,000 users as part of MoJ’s Common Operating Model for human resources, finance, purchase and payroll systems. It is scheduled to be fully operational by spring 2013.

“By selecting Savvis’ GWS, the Ministry of Justice gains instant access to secure infrastructure and obtains the interdepartmental connectivity required for the ERP system,” said Neil Cresswell, managing director, EMEA, at Savvis. “The platform also eliminates the extensive and costly design, construction and testing process typically associated with infrastructure required for this type of project.”

Utilising the pre-built, accredited GWS platform virtually eliminates upfront capital costs for new projects and also decreases deployment time. Government IT departments and suppliers benefit from immediate access to infrastructure and only pay for the consumption of their IT services, rather than the costly procurement, maintenance and management of hardware.

The MoJ joins the U.K. Home Office in using the GWS for delivering centralised applications.
