Success Drives Expansion of Locations for Verizon’s Wholesale Ethernet Exchange Services

Exchange Offers Simplicity, Flexibility and Choice for Wholesale Customers

March 21, 2011

LAS VEGAS – Verizon is expanding availability of its award-winning Ethernet services using the nationwide CENX Carrier Ethernet Exchange to include Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Ethernet exchanges provide a neutral place for buyers and sellers to peer, connect and purchase Ethernet services.

Verizon announced the expansion, which is scheduled for the second quarter of 2011, at the COMPTEL Plus Conference and Expo in Las Vegas. The additional locations will address an increase in customer demand for Verizon’s Ethernet exchange services, which the company launched in early 2010.

Verizon uses the CENX Carrier Ethernet Exchange, a leading worldwide carrier exchange, to offer global wholesale carriers a range of options that support the carriers’ customers, creating significant new revenue opportunities. Customers that take advantage of Ethernet exchanges can experience a quicker, simpler interconnection process, speeding up the time to market of their offerings.

“The positive response we’ve experienced since launching this product demonstrates that customers are accepting the Ethernet exchange concept,” said Matthew Duckworth, marketing director for Verizon Global Wholesale. “Ethernet is a dynamic field in and of itself, and as our customers discover how flexible and easy it is to use our Ethernet exchange services, they’re quickly getting on board.”

At the CENX exchanges where Verizon is connected, carriers configure their network interconnection to CENX as they choose. CENX then handles the translations and interoperability between Verizon and its carrier customers as services are turned up, streamlining the detailed engineering of such service setups.

“The ease of access to our Ethernet services platforms has driven additional interest in our other Ethernet products such as port and access services and Ethernet virtual circuits, creating a broader base of customers that now have access to Ethernet services,” said Duckworth.

The Ethernet exchange plays a key role in meeting the operational demands of Ethernet growth, and further drives the deployment of many Ethernet-dependent applications. Additionally, by using the CENX Market real-time portal, members of the CENX exchange can quickly confirm the details of specific Verizon service offerings as they plan delivery of Ethernet services.

In June 2010, Verizon Global Wholesale and its Ethernet exchange partner CENX earned top honors from Global Telecoms Business magazine for providing Verizon’s wholesale customers simplified access to a broad range of Ethernet services. Verizon’s win in the Ethernet Service Innovation category of the magazine’s annual event recognized the company’s introduction of Ethernet exchange services in early 2010.
