NASCAR Driver AJ Allmendinger Earns $5,000 for Paralyzed Veterans of America

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – March 29, 2011 – Sprint today announced it will make a donation of $5,000 to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) on behalf of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ driver AJ Allmendinger (Los Gatos, Calif.). Allmendinger prevailed in the Sprint Bragging Rights Challenge at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, March 27 by finishing higher in the race than fellow driver, Casey Mears (Bakersfield, Calif.).

Allmendinger and Mears took part in the private “race within a race” during the Auto Club 400. The driver who scored the highest-finishing position in the event received a $5,000 contribution to the charity of his choice on behalf of Sprint. With his 14th-place finish in the Auto Club 400, Allmendinger earned the check for the PVA as well as home-turf bragging rights in the state of California.
“The Sprint Bragging Rights Challenge was a ton of fun,” said Allmendinger. “I love having the opportunity to bring awareness to the Paralyzed Veterans of America and this was an excellent opportunity for me to do that. It’s an honor for me to be associated with them. It’s cool that Casey and I were asked to be a part of the Challenge. Sprint works really hard to activate its sponsorship and they do a fantastic job. Everything they do is fun for the drivers and for the fans. Most importantly though, I’m glad we came out ahead in our Best Buy Ford and Sprint will donate $5,000 to the PVA.”
