Cyan Joins Allied Fiber’s Dark Fiber Community

Online community drives optical networking growth and expansion in North America

Petaluma, March 8, 2011 – Cyan today announces that it has joined Allied Fiber’s Dark FiberCommunity (DFC), an online directory that mirrors the fiber ecosystem with participants rangingfrom fiber technology and equipment manufacturers to infrastructure providers and servicevendors. Allied Fiber, a carrier-neutral provider of dark fiber with a national footprint, created theDFC in response to rising demand for its products and services from network operators andcompanies seeking to build new and extend existing dark fiber networks.

“High demand for bandwidth services is forcing rapid innovation in fiber networking,” states EricClelland, Vice President North American Sales of Cyan. “Allied Fiber has created a valuableresource for the community that makes it easy to do business and to stay active and visible as akey participant in the fiber networking industry. Cyan shares in the Community’s belief that darkfiber is a valuable asset to meet the needs of high-bandwidth services for data centers, serviceproviders and large enterprises.”

“Cyan’s deep experience in delivering powerful, packet-optical transport solutions will be atremendous asset to the Dark Fiber Community,” continues Hunter Newby, CEO of Allied Fiber.“We look forward to Cyan’s participation in the Community. We are also honored to see theDFC further expand to become an online resource that is helping the entire communicationsecosystem deliver high-performance broadband networks across the country.”

The Cyan Z-Series™ of packet-optical transport platforms support the ability to groom multiplesub-rate services into full 10 GbE or OC-192 services to make efficient use of dark fiber facilitiesfor low-latency transport. In addition, the Z-Series supports the ability to modularly expandcapacity with support for four, eight or 40 10G DWDM wavelengths to provide dramaticincreases in per fiber scalability. These capabilities, combined with Cyan’s revolutionary multilayerplanning, management, and verification software systems, give service providers and datacenters greater control of dark fiber networks, with operational simplicity.
