Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber Names Small Business Award Winners

Chamber will honor award recipients on April 20 at the Desmond Hotel

(Albany) – The Chamber’s Small Business Council will present this year’s Small Business Awards on Wednesday, April 20 during a Special Breakfast Forum with Peter George, speaker, author and creator of the “More Clients More Profits Marketing System,” at The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center.

In keeping with the focus on business success, George will provide tips from his latest work, “101 Ways to Attract More Clients,” that are designed to help companies consistently attract the clients with whom they want to do business.

The Small Business Council will recognize three small businesses in the following categories:

Small Business of the Year Award: Teal, Becker & Chiaramonte, CPAs, PC

Teal, Becker & Chiaramonte, CPAs, PC (TBC) is an Albany-based accounting and advisory firm. Established in 1971, the firm offers accounting and auditing, personal and corporate tax, trusts and estates, business advisory, valuation and pension services for a diversified clientele.

The firm has grown from a small practice with three accountants to an operation with 81 employees, including 41 CPAs. While the firm itself has expanded, customer satisfaction remains a focal point. Pension plan administration and business advisory services were added to the firm’s product line in 2001 and 2005, respectively.

TBC has been a visible supporter of the community throughout the years. This year, the company has decided to contribute to 40 different charities to celebrate its 40th year in business. Many individuals at TBC sit on boards or are volunteers within local and national organizations and the firm sponsors many events as a way to support their employees’ and clients’ philanthropy.

“Our goal is to help privately held businesses grow effectively by providing them with sound accounting and advisory services. While assisting our clients, we were growing our own business, which makes this recognition as the Small Business of the Year an incredible honor. As a small business in this fast-paced economy and competitive environment, we have focused on meeting our clients’ needs, treating our employees right and being highly involved in the community. We are proud to be recognized by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber with this award.” Robert Kind, Managing Partner

Micro-Enterprise Award: 3tarchitects

3t is focused on providing forward thinking, progressive design solutions. They constantly strive to provide high-quality design that is sustainable while working on projects that are positive contributors to the community at large, as well as the owners and the occupants their buildings serve.

3t does not specialize in any one area of practice; instead, they have become experts in numerous building and planning types. They are widely recognized for their multi-unit residential designs, both affordable and market rate. They are also well recognized in their industry for their expertise in hospitality, retail and urban rehabilitation and planning design.

Aside from 3tarchitects, 3tstudios has been created as a companion company. 3tstudios specializes in branding, marketing and graphics.

“Many small businesses within the Albany-Colonie region are worthy of this award; they are full of hardworking people who are exceeding expectations. We at 3t are honored to have been chosen among this deserving group of businesses. We take pride in working with other organizations in our community, and accept this award knowing that we would not be successful in our industry without quality key resources provided by our fellow local businesses. This honor motivates us to continue working through 3t’s mission and investing in our community.” Scott Townsend, AIA, LEED AP, Principal

Ingenuity Award of Excellence: Tech Valley Communications

Tech Valley Communications (TVC), headquartered in Albany, provides advanced voice, data, high-speed internet and related services to regional business enterprise and government customers over its own FirstLight fiber optic network.

TVC was at the forefront of providing fiber-optic-to-the-premise service to both large and small businesses in the Capital Region. TVC invests millions of dollars annually in the ongoing expansion of its fiber optic network infrastructure, utilizing many local contractors and vendors. The FirstLight network currently spans over 450 route miles of fiber optics, connecting more than 500 commercial buildings and serving more than 1,000 customers in upstate New York.

TVC believes giving back to the communities that give the company so much is integral to the shared success of all and is actively involved with numerous Capital Region organizations for education, health and well being, public safety, arts and culture, economic development and more. The company’s focus on regional economic development was a major driver for the 2006 deployment of a municipal wireless “WiFi” network and a free internet service named “Albany FreeNet” in the downtown Albany business corridor.

“Since founding Tech Valley Communications 11 years ago, our goal has always been to elevate the quality of telecommunications services available to regional businesses and match that with a hands-on client service approach regardless of customer size. As we embark on a new phase of growth driven by the success of our FirstLight fiber-to-the-premise service, we are particularly honored to receive this recognition from the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber, which represents so many of our valued customers and partners.” Kevin O’Connor, CEO
