Rapidly Growing Managed and Cloud Services Provider Appoints Data Center and Network Industry Veteran Mark Weiner as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing
DENVER and SANTA CLARA, CA, February 8, 2011 – Virtela, the world’s largest independent managed network, security and cloud services company, today announced the new appointment of Mark Weiner as senior vice president of worldwide marketing. Weiner brings to Virtela more than two decades of senior management expertise in the data center and networking industries where he helped shape new markets and technologies while at Cisco Systems, NetScaler (acquired by Citrix), and Redback Networks. Virtela also announced today the opening of both a Silicon Valley office and a customer advisory board as part of its ongoing corporate expansion.

In his new role, Weiner will be managing Virtela’s global marketing strategy, product management, and customer advisory board. At Cisco, Weiner led marketing across multiple data center business units generating $1 billion of annual revenue, and successfully launched the company into the WAN optimization market and number one market share within two years. Previously, he was vice president of worldwide marketing at NetScaler and worked to develop the application delivery market, leading to the company’s acquisition by Citrix Systems for $325 million. Earlier in his career, he spent several years in telecommunications, serving as vice president of worldwide marketing at Redback Networks and a core member of its IPO team, the fifth largest offering in 1999.
